According to the Denver Business Journal, American will begin increasing prices of all alcohol purchased in domestic cabins by $1 on October 1. Prices for beer will rise from $7 to $8, and the cost of wine and spirits will jump from $8 to $9.
Airline experts expect the move will lead to other competing carries also instituting price increase for alcohol. The changes implemented by American are believed to be a result of the airline making up for higher fuel costs.
An American spokeswoman told the Denver Business Journal that company representatives feel the price increases are justifiable due to the broader array of premium brands on offer for economy passengers.
For passengers flying in Americans main cabin extra section and members of the airlines frequent traveler program will still be eligible to receive their booze for free.
