I believe he counted on the "female assistant" hired by the majority would be a Jennine Pierino Fox-type attack dog and soften up the battlefield for him. After all his Fox only softball interviews was just the opening act.
Then he would triumphantly enter the arena all guns blazing and continue the take down of the
Liar With No Corroboration...but he did not read the temperature of the room very well, did he?
And that temperature was the red hot degree of sympathy and belief of and for Dr. Ford whose testimonial under oath was not believed by exactly the same number of braindead viewers who think Fox is real news...Trump actually got that estimate of 25% right. What a big big brain!
It may be Brett was fed information about Ford during the break and to cool it...but I believe this scorched earth strategy was the hastily agreed upon strategy all along, in keeping with the strategy of converting a trial of character into a criminal trial with two witness in which by definition there would no corroboration on either side. And in keeping with the desires of the one stop shop of scorched earth as policy for everything Trump.
When the R Senators took over questioning, the shock of Ford's truth having abated after a lunch f cold crow, it was then Graham blasted out a loud warning to Kavanaugh to just keep on trucking because it was already fucked all up...was that when blaming the Clintons and the Deep State got a shout out? Not sure...but honestly, did not see that bit of breathtaking partisanship and fantastical thinking coming!
All else aside this man is a RW extremist and partisan of the worst kind, a Fox News judge with exactly the kind of barely restrained temperament to join the Fox News administration.
Fuck, Justice Pierino just went up a notch in my judicial ranking from pond scum to the bacteria the pond scum feeds on.
If someone has not filed a complaint with the judicial oversight and complaints committee of the Court of Appeals over this disqualifying bias and political partisanship so clearly shown, maybe someone in the jurisdiction with standing could do the good deed.
Anyways....long day for me...lost of DU posting...one hide...one appeal to administration...
But a much better sleep than last night, I will tell you all that!
.......
Edit....
Interesting twitter based article...on replay...K. swore under oath...did not see Ford...believe him or not.

(16,070 posts)I think while he was sitting in Pence's office in the Senate, they were both watching her testimony...and he was getting pointers on how to act!!!

(23,946 posts)even in the same room, was just weird. Any criminal accused has the right to hear the testimony...but the whole concept of turning this into a criminal trial failed on the very first test of a real criminal trial...accuser and accused in same room!
So, from the get go...not a criminal trial. See that, media, it is not that hard to separate a trial of crime from a trial of character.

(53,764 posts)liar as trump.
And you know if he lied about such a little thing like that you know he's lying about the big things.
He's a fool. He's been around DC for decades he ought to know things like that get out. And there was no need to lie about it. What possible advantage could saying he didn't watch Dr. Ford's testimony get him?

(23,946 posts)Later during the hearing, Senator Kamala Harris asked Kavanaugh, "Did you watch Dr. Ford's testimony?"
"I did not," Kavanaugh admitted. "I planned to, but I did not. I was preparing mine."
