Kennedy can put an end to it right now. He can say he's staying for the foreseeable future. No more investigations. No more hearings.

So kennedy hanging on for another couple terms might be the best they can do.

(5,586 posts)He didn't do what Sandra Day O'Conner did and say he'd serve until a replacement is appointed and confirmed.
For Kennedy to come back, he would have to be renominated and reconfirmed by the Senate.

Apparently, Trump stiffed so many US lenders he couldn't get a loan from a US back so he went to them

(13,868 posts)Actually heard your proposal mentioned on a news show, and they said there had been cases where a judge did revoke his retirement but the courts ruled that he or she would have to go through the confirmation process again.
So, if Kennedy tried it I guess the remaining SCOTUS would have to rule on it. As my daughter says: Awkward!

(51,582 posts)with Plan A. Also, he has been groomed for this "job" his whole life so this is probably going to be pretty hard for him to accept. He has never had a hard fall nefore, poor baby.
I hope he becomes a bum on Skid Row. Maybe he will have to buy Thunderbird and Miller and not fine wine and Arrogant Bastard Ale.
