General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe FBI will give their report on Kavanaugh to Donald Trump.
It is up to him to give it to the Senate.
That is the information I have gleaned from listening to various cable news networks this morning.
If this is true, what is to prevent the White House from withholding any critical or new information from the Senate?
Would Donald Trump be capable of doing something like that?
I think there might be difficulty in getting the FBI information to the public?
Perhaps I am just paranoid?

(102,228 posts)Lots of contradictory reporting going on.
I DO find it hard to believe that most of it won't become public--one way or another.

(137 posts)We will know at least if it looks good or bad for Kavanugh. If trump calls kavenaugh and says your out then we know its bad. If trump says go to floor vote, well know its positive for Kavanagh. The results of positive or negative will be known immediately.

(3,665 posts)If it goes to just #45 and it's bad, he'll say it's all good and we all will know he's lying again.

(54,770 posts)I'm going to assume that it will be handled properly. If trump withholds the report from the Senate, then he needs to withdraw Kavanaugh's nomination. On the other hand, if the report does NOT show a pattern of drunkenness and disrespect for women (which is not likely from what I've seen), are we prepared to bite our tongue and accept Kavanaugh?

However, he has unmasked himself. We know his true nature. He is a hyper-partisan. He thinks he is entitled to be a Supreme Court Justice. He does not have the temperament to be a judge, not even on a lower court. He likes beer.

(54,770 posts)this is what happens. It was obvious this was going to happen the minute trump's vote returns started coming in.
Hopefully, we rectify that in a little mover one month.
Everything he stands for Im against. Let him squeak by with Republican votes and hope we can impeach him.

(54,770 posts)Democrats will want to move the goal posts if the investigation doesnt go our way (which I doubt), but that will hurt us.
This is what happens when you lose. Now, trying to impeach aint a bad idea, but we gotta win Congress for that.

(53,410 posts)Besides, he needs the Senate to confirm Kavanaugh. Hell probably dump him, or Kavanaugh will quit to stop the bleeding.

Either way, as agreed upon, the Senate must vote. Doesn't sound cool at all, but hey, we are dealing with a polticial party that doesn't care about the welfare of the United State of America.

(10,885 posts)He's been hedging now for days - hasn't been strongly defending Kavanaugh as one might expect. He first said he wanted to be sure everyone was heard, then said Dr. Ford was seemed credible, then said he'd leave the decisions to the Senate Committee, etc. tRump has one foot out the door on this nomination and is looking to make his escape as graciously as possible (for himself). I think he's already given up on Kavanaugh and is on to the next reputation he can kill.

(7,768 posts)Flake, Collins and Murkowski vote "NO" on Kavanaugh.
I remember Murkowski being asked by a reporter, "Senator, do you think there should be further investigation?"
Her answer, "Wouldn't THAT be nice!"

(12,690 posts)I can't remember which show as I watched almost 3 hours of discussion last night. The report goes to all of the Senators and even some staffers.

(19,972 posts)Lots of potential in the process for cooking a report to fit somebody's agenda. See: Comey, J. Edgar, "Slam Dunk" Tenet, Devil Nunes, and of course Donny the Perpetual Lying Machine.

(50,555 posts)If the FBI gives a negative report to Trump, and the White House gives a positive one to the Senate, the FBI will then give the real report to the Senate. I dont think even the most prominent Trump allies in Congress would let that slide.
