Whether they find women's claims of abuse, assault and rape believable or not is irrelevant when they just DON'T. CARE.

IOW, the believability or credibility of women isn't the issue so much as the indifference of conservative men. It's simply irrelevant to them. WOMEN are simply irrelevant to them except to be used as a utility or service unit (never as a human being).

Case in point: https://www.newsweek.com/sexual-assault-should-not-disqualify-kavanaugh-proven-majority-republicans-1141877 ("SEXUAL ASSAULT SHOULD NOT DISQUALIFY KAVANAUGH IF PROVEN, MAJORITY OF REPUBLICANS BELIEVE: POLL&quot

This is the great fear of men: that a woman will falsely accuse him, and she'll be believed, even if she's lying. Not all woman in all circumstances can, or should, be automatically believed. There have been times when the women were in fact lying.

I'd prefer the ad speak to believing Dr. Ford. Her story is clearly true, IMO.

Abusers fear being accused of their actual crimes.

Only about 2% of all rape and related sex charges are determined to be false, and only 40% of rapes are reported.

which works out to .8% at the most....and it is probably less.

remember the rape accusation against that Duke Lacrosse sports team years ago? It was a big story, in all the news. Al Sharpton took up the cause for the woman. She'd been a dancer at the sports team's raucus party. She said she'd been cornered and raped in the bathroom or something. It was found that she had not been raped.

It's rare for women to lie about this. But it does happen, and men worry about that. Because some men's lives are ruined from the accusation, in their view. (Sometimes that's true, unless they're rich elites...nothing ruins their lives. They still are on the A list for the best parties. Even Claus von Bulow's popularity didn't take a hit, still invited to all the most important parties, even though everyone thought he'd poisoned his wife.)

Anyway, that's why I don't think the ad is as effective as it could be.

If you stay indoors and don't look outside, that doesn't mean the sun didn't come up, because you didn't see it.

It's statistically impossible for NO men think there is a possibility of a false accusation.

I've already told you that my father has mentioned that in passing. So you know that it is true that some men have that concern, especially if you believe that what a woman says is always true. I am a woman. Therefore, what I say is true (following the logic of the ad).

That is not evidence that "men' fear it, just A man.

What I have seen is that men fear truthful accusations.

And they almost ALWAYS deny it. And they call women crazy 99.9% of the time.

I'm a man and I've lived a long time and I've never seen a man falsely accused in my personal life or met one who was worried about being falsely accused. I have seen quite a few who claimed that they were falsely accused and the truth eventually came out.

All it takes is one to disprove the statement that "no men think that." Plus, it's just common sense. The statement "no men fear that" cannot be true, given that human beings' feelings and beliefs are not 100% one way or the other. That is statistically impossible.

I'm speaking of facts. It is statistically impossible for no men to fear false accusations. It is also statistically impossible for all claims of sexual abuse to be true, or false. The objects of such claims aren't always men, either, and the claimants aren't always women.

You're speaking of "usually" and "generally." I'd agree with that. As I said, it's rare for an accusation to be false.

Saying that Norwegians are friendly is not some sort of absolute statement that no Norwegian exists on the planet who is unfriendly.

I can live with your Dad's fear because millions of women and men are treated as if they are not to be believed, whereas it is incredibly rare for a false accusation to occur. Your dad's fear is nothing when compared to the pain of being abused and not believed.

It was never proven that she wasn't assaulted or raped. In fact, the nurse who examined her at the hospital recorded evidence of assault.

The prosecution messed up the case, and probably accused the wrong people. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Legally, it was found to be false. That's all we have to go by, when everyone was interviewed, the case was investigated, physical evidence was gathered, and a panel of people listened to all the evidence.

You choose to believe it was still true. But it was legally found not to be true.

But you don't have to believe that one case. It is statistically true that not everyone tells the truth and the whole truth 100% of the time.

Men (often of color) have served decades in prison for assaults for which they are later proved innocent.

It’s not mutually exclusive to care about survivors but also to admit the system gets it wrong. Not ok to ignore or pretend that .8% is ok; that’s not just a number, it’s LIVES.

There are women who lie about sexual assault - like the Duke Lacrosse team accuser, for example.

Being born with a vagina does not automatically confer unquestionable goodness.

It's not just because a woman says so, it's everything surrounding the accusation. A pattern of behavior by the man, does the woman not have a history of untruthfulness, does it ring true, will she state it under oath, etc.

That's what makes Ford believable, to me. All the other things about her story, and her character. The fact that she mentioned it to her marital therapist years ago, told her friends several years ago.

NTTAWWT but it makes not one iota of difference to the people who will vote to put Kavanaugh on the SC.
While the FBI is "investigating" (limited scope = nobody has been able to determine exactly what questions are not permitted to be asked of a very short list of witnesses) the pro-K GOPers are fanned out, targeting the wobbly and undecided Senators to lock down their votes to confirm K. Nothing wrong with appreciating a feel-good moment, but it will do nothing to change the outcome which could happen as soon as mid-week.
