But I am retired and going through a divorce. I don't think I have the energy or patience to do a move abroad alone. Never say never, though.

I'm sorry-I've been looking with no real hope but I'd move my family overseas or Canada in a heartbeat if I could.

(19,956 posts)There seems to be some misconceptions here about immigrating to Canada. It's not all that easy unless you have specific skills and the wait can be six months to a year if you qualify. You don't have to have a lot of money - in one category, you don't have to have any money at all. They use a points system based on a number of factors such as language skills, work experience and education - if you have enough points you will be invited to apply for Permanent Resident status (which has pretty much all the privileges of citizenship but you can't vote or run for office). I believe you can also retain your American citizenship if you wish (but that has tax implications).
And hey, it doesn't snow ALL year round
