1. Agreed, but that takes a constitutional amendment.
And that's not happening.

That is more doable.

6. If you look at the history of the electoral college
As I understand its about a level playing field. The smaller population states would not sigh the constitution unless it could be "fair" to them. Bigger population states had an advantage so it was put into the constitution. Correct me If I'm wrong...

19. I actually googled how to do it. There are ways but voting is the first start of the process.
Google it.

21. I know how to change the Constitution...
I also know it takes 3/4 of the States to approve and that the small States aren't willing to give up their electoral influence.
Your strategy to overcome that obstacle? |

15. I agree but
think our energy should be spent elsewhere given the extreme unlikelihood that the EC will ever be abolished.

16. It's either we get rid of it
Or we do away with the “winner take all” system and award electoral votes to the winner of the congressional district and award the remaining votes to who ever gets the popular vote within the state.

18. The smaller population states won't sign on to it.
Proposals such as awarding electoral votes by winning congressional districts with the last two senate votes awarded by overall population winner....or, one awarded by population winner and the other assigned by the state legislature....still would have to climb a virtual Mt. Everest of change.
The low population Red states will not yield their power willingly when they have an unfair advantage. Even when more "fair" proposals are put on the table, a "fair" proposal means they lose some control. They will stick to this like flies on manure until Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania turn solidly blue. Then they will lose their advantage and will want a "fair" system. |
