General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI created a timeline about Keith Ellison (D-MN) and his ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan.
The timeline demonstrates:
Karen Monahan is trying to ruin Keith Ellison's career and make Doug Wardlow (R) win on November 6. She's motivated by jealousy towards Ellison's current girlfriend, and a desire to support her new party, the Republican Party. Even if Ellison did try to pull her out of bed in August 2016, which I'm skeptical about, the way she's spinning her accusation requires motivation beyond wanting to share the facts.
On October 5, 2018, Betsy Hodges, former Mayor of Minneapolis, re-affirmed her support for Keith Ellison. Her essay has additional signers. Others progressive individuals and groups re-affirmed their support for Ellison later in October.
I'm a progressive, and I'm voting for Keith Ellison (D) for Minnesota Attorney General.

(35,619 posts)...is Doug Wardlow.
Wardlow is anti-gay marriage, anti-immigrant, anti-worker, anti-abortion, and anti-environment.
Additionally, Wardlow said that if he wins he'll "fire 42 Democratic attorneys right off the bat" and replace them with Republicans. He also said he'll prosecute illegal voting in a way which will make Republican candidates win in MN "for decades to come."
Even if I were 100% certain that Keith Ellison tried unsuccessfully to pull Karen Monahan out of bed by her feet on the morning of August 26, 2016, I would still vote for Ellison to stop Wardlow.

(44,973 posts)If she had the video, would be easy to prove her claim, wouldn't it?
But she hasn't provided this video. She doesn't have to show it to the public, she could have just shown it to the reporter.

(35,619 posts)The investigator for the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Susan Ellingstad, assured Karen Monahan that she could show it privately, but Monahan refused.
Monahan's attorney, a right-winger with ties to Ellison's opponent, Doug Wardlow (R), also hasn't seen the video.

(45,056 posts)that a person can show one side of themselves to public people for years and an entirely different side to people in private. I understand voting for Ellison to keep Wardlow out of office, that creep sound dangerous.

(35,619 posts)The accusations against Al Franken involved quantity over quality.
They started with a right-wing actress, under the guidance of a friend of Roger Stone, misrepresenting a skit she did with Al Franken as something which happened backstage.
Then came the accusation that Franken momentarily touched a woman's butt to pull her close while she stood next to him posing for a photo.
A woman who said that when she posed with him, he hung his arm down over her shoulder, and there was momentary contact between his hand and the side of her right breast.
A woman who said that after interviewing her on-stage, he kissed her on the cheek, but would have kissed her on the lips if she hadn't turned her head.
A woman who said he momentarily squeezed her waist while they posed for a photo.
A woman who said that Al Franken walked towards her, and she thinks he wanted a kiss, but she stepped out of his way and there was no contact between them.
(None of the above are parody. Those are real accusations which caused US Senator Al Franken to resign.)

Also, people who wanted him to move on believed a documented, lying birther (Tweeden) over a good man.

I really don't like to hold this position. It is what it is. If you talk about the video then it needs to come out.
The reason I question my opinion here. There could be a video and it could state what she says. It might also be extremely embarrassing, unflattering, or hold something else negative toward the woman. That would be an extremely hard place for any woman to be in.
The reason I hold my position. If the video shows what's described then it and the rest of her statement needs to go to the police. You don't get to make claims like this and then do very little.

(35,619 posts)- There never was a video.
- There was a video, but she lost it and won't find it.
- There is a video, and Karen Monahan can find it, but she's too embarrassed by how she looks or what she says in it to release it.
- There is a video and Karen Monahan will release it the weekend before the general election to maximize the chances of electing a Republican.
