When (if) the Democrats ever get the power to pass legislation again and have it become law

They need to create new crimes for voter suppression. Like, if a government official takes an action that denies more than 100 legitimate voters their ability to vote, that official goes to jail.

no more voting roll purges

no more shutting down polling places in minority districts

no more demanding ID to vote

no more flyers that have the wrong date for election day

etc.

let's get serious about protecting the right to vote - and put some criminal penalties and teeth behind punishments for trying to screw people out of the franchise. Right now, GOP dirty tricksters disenfranchise voters by the thousands, and Democrats seem to just take it and hope that turnout wins elections anyway.

1. Good suggestions. It's amazing that the repugs have passed very strict illegal voting laws, but...

do nothing of the sort that you're advocating in your OP. Hypocrites.

I can understand the purging but the frequency of doing the purges? Too much. I have heard that roughly 5% of people move around in the US, probably less now, w/ economic uncertainty as it is.

Your ideas are a very good starting point.

2. Great Idea-But I Think the Reason There isn't a Fair Election Act...

is that elections are controlled by the states. Remember Florida?

3. Note However, US Constitution Does Appear to Give Federal Government Some Legislative Power

Clause 1: Time, place, and manner of holding. The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing [sic] Senators.

5. No election reforms will stick if we dont fix the supreme court first

I firmly believe the first thing Democrats should do is add seats to the supreme court. The second thing they should do is have referendum's to make D.C. and all inhabited U.S. territories states adding seats to the senate making it very difficult for conservatives to ever get the supreme court they want back and then we can begin to implement broader election reforms.
