but, I would also suspect the media played a big role in making Trump seem like a legitimate candidate = when it came down to it, Trump had a scandal a day when running for president, so probably 250 or so during just 2016. Many of those scandals would have killed any other candidacy, be they Democrat or Republican. When those scandals did not take him down, people took them less seriously and those 250 scandals were lumped together and were given equal footing with the 2 or 3 Hillary "fake" scandals about her emails and the Clinton Foundation. (both sides have scandals to the media)
Then, when Jason Chaffetz leaked that Comey letter that he was re-opening the investigation to the NY Times, it made it seem like Clinton's scandal was the real scandal out of all of them, and her 8-10 point lead evaporated. (The LA Times daily tracking poll had Clinton up 51-38 the day of the Comey letter leak. The next day, it was like 44-43 Trump - a 14 point swing in one day)
