Children sworn in as US citizens while dressed in Halloween costumes

The Hill:

Dozens of children were sworn in as U.S. citizens on Wednesday, some while donning Halloween costumes during a ceremony in Fairfax, Va.

Some of the children were dressed in Halloween costumes and planned to go trick-or-treating following the ceremony, ABC News reported.

The 35 children who were sworn in as American citizens on Wednesday evening came from 22 different countries, including Afghanistan, China, Egypt, Iran, Ireland and the United Arab Emirates.

That oath pretty much precludes anyone whose religious beliefs forbid them from participation in the military.

That finds the concept of children taking an “oath of citizenship” a little over-the-top with a hint of fascism?

Given the bullshit their parents went through, the years of paperwork and waiting, I find the requirement for an oath at the end as a little ridiculous.

Ceremony, sure, but the oath is awkward at best, fascism/ultra-nationalism at worst.
