(9,895 posts)They are symbols of intolerant bigots, people who have forsaken reason and are not worth the effort to try an converse with or commune with.
I thank them for marking themselves so publically to help us keep an eye on them, its just too bad that we cannot seem to stop the craziest of them from doing horrific things at the behest of the orange anus.

(9,600 posts)Trump will do anything to remain in power. If it means taking a "below the belt shot" at any minority group to push his agenda, Trump will do it.
If it means lie, cheat, and steal to win an election, Trump will do it.
Trump thinks you are weak and dumb if you try to suggest to him that there are better ways than cheating and lying to get what you want.
So why does any one support him? It is because these people that support Trump like what they see. Don't think for a minute trump and his supporters are not coming after you once they get finished taking the minorities down.

(1,547 posts)Where we can overcome hate with love.. America is the place.
It is possible to hate the value and not hate the person holding it.. And even treat him/her with respect.

(14,249 posts)But look at the responses to the tweet.
Apparently, in Trump world being "civil" has nothing to do with tone but means being completely silent.
And "harassment" means saying anything to a MAGA supporter that they may not like.

(28,120 posts)I did a little sleuthing and found (thanks to your pic link)...
"This image shows a photograph from the early 1920s, probably in Portland, in which robed and hooded Ku Klux Klan members share a stage with members of the Royal Riders of the Red Robe, a Klan auxiliary for foreign-born white Protestants. A large banner reading Jesus Saves occupies a prominent position on the wall at the rear of the stage and testifies to the strong role that Protestantism played in the KKK philosophy of 100 percent Americanism, an ideology that developed during World War I as a reaction to the perceived threat to national unity posed by the influx of non-Protestant, non-English-speaking immigrants.
United States involvement in World War I signaled the end of the Progressive era of American politics, while the end of the war ushered in a new conservativism in the nation. Americansespecially those of the middle classfelt increasingly threatened by both foreign and domestic forces that were beyond their control. Fears of communism and unchecked immigration spurred the formation of patriotic and
nativist groups throughout the country during the post-war period. In response to the latter, Congress passed the Johnson-Reed Act in 1924 which severely restricted the number of immigrants who could enter the country. Within the U.S., the migration of Southern blacks to the industrialized cities of the North was viewed as an economic and racial threat by the Norths predominantly white labor base. Catholics and Jews were still viewed as foreign religions that threatened the fabric of American life. Capitalizing upon these fears, the founder of the Second Ku Klux Klan, William Joseph Simmons, created a nation-wide organization that both perpetuated and profited from this new conservatism.
The Klan philosophy of 100 percent Americanism rested primarily on three attributes: belief in a philosophy of white supremacy; adherence to Protestant or American Christianity; and the superiority of native-born Americans. Given Oregons long history of racial exclusion and the fact that almost 90 percent of the states population in the early 1920s was native-born, white, and protestant, Klan organizers had little trouble enrolling new members.
These kleagles played to the economic, religious, and political concerns of ordinary middle-class citizens by stressing the threats posed by immigrant labor, foreign religions, and communism. In addition, the KKKs militaristic culture enhanced its appeal among members of other organizations structured along strict hierarchical and ideological lines. Recognizing this fact, the Klan organizers directed their initial recruiting efforts at local law enforcement officials, protestant clergy, and members of fraternal groups such as the Masons and the Elks."

(9,534 posts)"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
By resisting the temptation to respond to him with hateful and divisive words, she instead put hearts and called his hat "pretty" making it harder for him to reject her message. The fact that he took time to read the whole thing suggests he was thinking about this. The way to draw people out of hate groups is to treat them with kindness, according to those who have successfully deprogrammed some. Some of these people have probably never had much kindness, being raised in authoritarian homes.
Yes, they are deplorable people. But they are humans too, and something made them that way. Some are true sociopaths, but others are buying into propaganda of scapegoating, maybe looking to lift their own sorry lot in life. Helping them to see the human impacts on those they are demonizing, and show them there are kind people among those groups, is a positive step though a hard one to take.
I've been having some online discussions with a head of a local gun owners' group, who I sense is having some qualms over the synagogue shooting. I'm trying to encourage these folks that it's okay to speak out against certain actions of someone you voted for for other reasons. If you wanted someone who is strong on the 2nd amendment, that doesn't mean you should stand silently by while that president engages in fanning flames of hate against Jews, for example. I hope my words have gotten through to him.

(53,952 posts)The Twitter comments are completely predictable and demonstrate they, the right, are as big a snowflake culture, as the claim the left is. Classic projection. Of course, I see the, also predictable, "He can't be an anti-Semite he has a Jew daughter and loves Israel." I just love when people claim they can't be anti-Semites because they are married to a Jew, have a Jewish parent, have a Jewish ancestor, or once saw a Jew in a deli.

(22,976 posts)Maybe it's just me, but I'd be extremely vigilant around some dude who "advertises" #45 in public. Many of them have a loose grip on reality, and can be like tightly wound springs ready to uncoil in any potential situation where they can spout their bullshit.
While I applaud the content of the note 100%, I'd first consider the welfare of the other passengers before engaging a Trumpist within the tight confines of an airplane in flight. These folks aren't exactly behavioral-health exemplars.
Also, the tweet states that "he read it all." Okay then, what was his reaction? Indifference? Anger? Lock antlers all day long while on the ground, but mid-air isn't the wisest place to cross swords with anyone. About anything.

(14,173 posts)I don't have a Twitter account. Maybe Trump spoiled if for me. But sometimes I wish I did just to counter some of those hateful SOBs on there. Why are they always accusing 'liberals' of being the ones that are hateful. The one that says he has been in the middle of a left wing mob and it was scary. A left wing protest mob is usually full of hippies, bongo drums, students, older people, church groups, unions, and maybe a small amount of black block trying to get in trouble. But I've been in plenty of "left wing mobs" like that and its a very positive experience with singing, chanting, clapping, drumming, laughing etc... To say that a mob like the Charlottesville Nazis were not hateful, but left wing protesters are is ludicrous.
I wonder sometimes are they just that brainwashed that they can literally see news footage of white supremacist marches, angry, with torches, chanting racist slogans, and don't see that as a negative? And seeing hippies and grammas holding signs is "hateful"?
Or are they just pretending they can't see that, and litter message boards and Twitter with responses like that just to get another rise out of the 'dumb libtards'. Because that's more fun than anything else to them.
