actual GOP probably the hardcore support is 50-60%...same people who were the teaparty.

This still a vast minority of america and why trump's approval stays in 40% area

Registered Republicans constitute something like 27 percent of the adult population. And Trump's approval rating among Republicans is sky high.

that the numbers shown in the 27% post might be more closer to actual percentages if I'm recalling (27% of voters are repug, and then you go from there, e.g., 73% are split into independents and democrats). The firm number of repugs supporting rump though is not as high as shown...

Might do a search and you might find (or someone in DU land will see your post and respond of course).

of all registered voters. Many conservatives no longer identify Republican (but of course most voted reliably loyally in past elections).

Trump's hard-core supporters behave very much like strong authoritarian followers, who according to expert Dr. Bob Altemeyer are at base at least 20% of adults **but whose ranks can grow in anxious times to include virtually all.**

(If you want to be scared about them, check out https://www.theauthoritarians.org/ . The book he wrote in lay language to warn the public about authoritarians can be downloaded without cost.)

Based on this, my best guess is that a very substantial majority of those who still identify Republican are Donny's loyal-to-fervently loyal base. Plus some hard cores who identify independent for some reason but have accepted him as their leader -- including deciding on matters of conscience for them.

However, even though they may not be considered Trump's own "base," we're seeing a very large majority of all conservatives supporting Republicans and continuation of what they're doing. Our local Deep South precinct says they're seeing no weakening of support for Republicans at all, and that suggests to me that dangerous authoritarian attitudes have grown dramatically.
