I recognize all of the polling place workers. They live in the precinct. They are my neighbors. I know most of them by name. They know my name. I walk in, say "Hello" and sign in. It reminds me that elections are a local thing, and that my neighbors are not just voting, but are also working at the polling place. That makes it real for me.
That's why I prefer to vote in person on Election Day.

(39,343 posts)If I'm abducted by sexy female aliens and carried away to populate a new species with them, at least I've voted already.
More than likely I'd miss Election Day due to work, but the sexy alien thing is always fun to contemplate.

(146,286 posts)I've not heard of any sexy female aliens, but I do remember a dream, as a teenager, about a girl covered with cat-like fur. It was a strange dream, to say the least.

(128,846 posts)but it's always nice to say hi to my neighbors working the polls, who I also see in the supermarket on occasion too!

(8,379 posts)Not that I think they check up on it, but you never know. My husband is legitimately out of town on business and has already sent in his absentee ballot, and although I'm working that day, I have time to vote before or after. I'm planning to vote before.

(1,474 posts)see who else is voting and how many people are voting. My voting place is seldom crowded and voting does not take over 10 - 15 minutes. I would love to have to wait an hour or more. I live in North Texas and like to just observe who is voting.

(16,089 posts)but my husband travels for work and is nearly always out of town on that day.
So, we go and do it early together.

(145,130 posts)There are some technical reasons why it is good to vote early under Texas law. This is especially true if you moved to a different county and want to vote a limited ballot

(3,160 posts)But I live in Illinois and they don't try to make it impossible for us to vote.

(2,769 posts)But on November 6 (and only on that day), I wish I lived in another state (say, Texas), where my vote might tip the scales for the Democratic candidate.
You see, here in MA, there is not much danger of the D incumbents losing to Rs. Warren for instance, is a good 35 points ahead of her opponent, Diehl (R-Trumpist).
The ballot questions here are more exciting.

(3,208 posts)my right hip locks up and causes pain. I also have problems with "scents" like perfume or hair spray (gives me headaches). But I am going to the polls on Tuesday because my grandsons have the day off school so they will be with me for the day and I like to show them how we can take part as citizens. I remember as a kid going with my own mom, when she went into the booth that had a curtain. It seemed so exciting! And as an adult I learned how important it really is to vote!
