President Obama is going way above and beyond to deliver the midterms to the Democrats.
So, instead of the complaints we've been hearing that he's not doing enough, I hope the only thing we hear is: "THANKS, Obama!"

(7,725 posts)I love the man more than my right arm, but, the Obama weve seen the last few weeks has been needed the last year or so.
Go ahead and bury me DU, but, thats how i feel. We need his moral support and example to counter-act the trum-principle.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)And we don't need his "moral support" - we need to figure things out for ourselves, get off of our asses and stop looking to magical political heroes to guide us.
Yet people - especially those who refused to lift a finger to help him when he needed support during his presidency - keep demanding more and more and more. He doesn't owe us jack squat anymore, but I appreciate that he is still rolling up his sleeves to pull more than his weight.
Crutchez_CuiBono
(7,725 posts)Respectfully, past presidents have a moral debt to pay to their country for the rest of their lives. That includes every living one.
That's my position. I think everyone here knows how I feel about Pres Obama. I don't lie when i say i'd take a bullet for him

(38,958 posts)My point is that I have had enough lectures about what I should post or think. I'm an adult and can figure that out for myself. The OP is entitled to their thoughts, posts and opinions just as is anyone else here or elsewhere. Calling for this or any group to suppress (and that is precisely what the OP is suggesting) those opinions from my point of view is simply wrong and counterproductive to a discussion board and the free exchange of ideas.

(7,725 posts)Pres Obama and his family needed a break. it's been 2 years of destroying everything he's done for this country, and nobody stopped it. Certainly not the D's. He has a perfect legacy that I was so disappointed he didnt stand up and remind people about, and what it was like before. I renew what I said about taking a bullet for him. Not quite sure how much more I could adore the guy. Have a good Sunday Sherm.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)you weren't paying attention.
The question is why more Democrats didn't themselves get off the sidelines and crow about his legacy instead of directing so much of their energy to running as far away from him as they could and yelling at him to do and say more.

(7,725 posts)comments...don't solicit them I guess. My posts stand as they are. I've been polite, but, i'm through talking w you. Have a nice day.
PS...You have ZERo idea of how much i've been trying to keep his legacy alive. Your OP assumes we were picking on Obama somehow and I for one and tired of people lecturing D's as a whole about what they should and should'nt do. I'm a good D, I assume you are too. Pres Obama is the man. The GOP cheats and then lets us devour each other in self examination. I've had enough of the mantra myself that D's are somehow doing politics wrong (generally). If you want to lecture someone...start w the repubs. My guess is you know dang well they won't listen. Nuff said.
EffieBlack
(14,249 posts)I said nothing about what you are or aren't doing "to keep his legacy alive" nor did did I criticize or address you impolitely.
FYI, responding to comments you post in a thread I started isn't "badgering." But given how sensitive you seem to be about responses that you don't agree with, it's just as well that you disengage with me.

(6,045 posts)And I really get SICK of all the pundits who you hear saying THIS COUNTRY IS IN DESPARATE NEED OF A PERSON WITH A MESSAGE OF UNITY...The voters want it too!
They can all FUCK OFF...President Obama NEVER ONCE gave up on trying to unify this country shy of painting himself WHITE!!!
And despite the HATRED & RACISM he had to endure like no other POTUS in American History President Obama NOT ONCE demeaned himself by engaging in gutter politics
NEVER!!!
Some people act as if Obama was never POTUS!

The only thing divisive about President Obama was the FACT he was not white!!
Also, It really sucked when he POTUS not to see Obama get the credit he deserved for LEADING THE COUNTRY out of the countless catastrophic cesspools we were in...And it sucks now to still see it happening!

(6,045 posts)We farked ourselves...President Obama was a once in a lifetime POTUS who shouldve had a massive army of unwavering support behind him not just in good times but bad...That is the ONLY WAY shit gets done! But, NOPE, he was all but left on his own in 2010 after all he had accomplished in under 2yrs!
Geez...It is still painful to think about.
The GOP NEVER EVER does such stupid petty cry baby shit like we do & that is why coat hanger abortions are coming back, same sex marriage is vulnerable & the rights & welfare of 10s of million of Americans are in serious jeopardy...FOR DECADES TO COME!!!

(7,725 posts)Old folks...older than me...should'nt spend their remaining years watching a country they helped hammer out, squandered by a rich kid who owes russia, and a group of money grubbers who already want for very little the common man will ever see. The gains in labor rights ALONE are being pissed away at such an alarming rate. The new generation has NO idea how hard those things were to get.

(35,454 posts)People don't actually know how much he is or isn't doing. As a guest on MSNBC pointed out, no one really knows who's doing what, saying or not saying because for the most part it's not being reported. Mainly all we see are clips of the White House Comrade over and over.
Secondly...he's doing just fine
Unfortunately for many on DU, if they don't "see it" personally at whatever random time they happen to turn on the teevee then the assumption is "Well the Democrats aren't doing anything".
Fortunately there is social media where people themselves are recording and tweeting about some Democratic "event" going on in their localities. I know there are organizations that have some "aggregator" twitter accounts that actually post pics and videos of canvasing/town halls/rallies.
And no I don't have a twitter account myself but DO look at tweets (people can do that as long as the profile isn't completely closed down/private or whatever they do to lock the public out).

(33,328 posts)I learned years ago that watching tv leaves you woefully ignorant of reality. I monitored ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS during the runup to 2016 election of infamy and concluded that it's worse than it was even 10 years ago. From what I've read here, the cable "news" networks are likewise terrible at reporting and good at ginning up ratings.
Obama's been very busy since before leaving office. He's making those voice-destroying public speeches at exactly the right time to remind people what a real President talks about and acts like in public, in the face of hecklers.
Thanks Obama!

(14,565 posts)I won't shy from emphasizing that. In watching Obama in recent days the glaring difference between his speaking style and Trump's style is that Trump knows how to use short memorable sound burst sentences and then pause for effect. Obviously they are lies and everything despicable, but the delivery is masterful.
Obama, in contrast, keeps going and going, thinking he needs to grin and use terms like "folks" all the time.
In watching Obama it stood out to me that we really need a 2020 nominee who is not only charismatic but knows how to apply the brief memorable sound bite style.
2020 is too early for Gillum but he is excellent at the quick summary sentences

(14,249 posts)But, at the same time, many of these same people demand that Hillary Clinton shut the hell up whenever she opens her mouth. I guess SHE'S not supposed to speak up and defend her legacy or say anything else.
More sense of ownership.
