I wish I could vote for them. All Three have something special and remind me of 14 years ago,
Back then there was a little known State Senator running for US Senator in my state.
He managed to draw alot of attention with his charisma and energy and eventually got the attention of the nominee for President that year, John Kerry.
Kerry asked him to be Keynote speaker and he wowed the convention.
I had the pleasure of voting for him for our senator.
A few years later he was to announce for President and my husband and I drove from Rockford, IL to Springfield just so we could stand quite away from the stands in 9 degree weather to listen to him. We were thrilled.
We supported him for President and lo and behold he became the nominee and then President.
He was a good President.
It's been two years since he's been out of office and Lord, do I miss President Obama.
He did Illinois proud.

(29,148 posts)maybe not 2020... but soon.
And even if Beto loses, he might well have enough star power to run for the Presidency.

(30,617 posts)When Obama was reelected, my husband and I were lucky enough to get tickets to go to McCormick Place to wait for the election results. We still have the lanyards we wore. We were packed in like sardines, but it was one of the most fun times I have ever had. We did not get back to Ogle County until 5:00 a.m.
If you still live in Rockford, you have some good candidates to vote for there. There are too many red hats in the area, but it is still worth it to work for them and vote for them. This election season has been so wild that there is no telling what upsets may happen.
Illinois politicians! They are either statesmen or jailbirds. Go figure.

(5,750 posts)Somehow I think that white men aren't scared of black women, like Stacey. And who could be afraid of Oprah?

them! I remember, only a short time ago, the stupid talking heads said there were no "young" Democrats anymore... everyone was "old" and beaten. I said that was wrong - they're just not getting covered. The also don't cover the messages - then say Democrats have no message. For the record, I still like the "old" Democrats, too!

I am praying with my whole self that she wins.

(9,769 posts)that people can understand. Reagan was heralded as "the great communicator" but his message was tone deaf. He didn't speak to and for those people who are struggling every day to provide health care, education, food and clothing for their families. He spoke to those were angry because they didn't have a trust fund and were bitter about it. Stacey Abrams cares about the people of Georgia. I am one and I was thrilled to cast my vote for her (by absentee ballot.)

(12,162 posts)The early voting line was long -- I hope this bodes well for us in Georgia -- and it felt historic. I would be so proud of her as our governor and know she will do a fantastic job.

(659 posts)but I don't think I've been quite impressed with a politician overall as I have been with her. Hopefully in the future, the whole nation gets a chance to vote for her.

(32,202 posts)We need fresh faces and talented, inspired young people to answer the "call to serve." There's rarely any magic involved in campaigning, it's a lot of hard work and hoping the breaks go your way. The trick is to not give up, and go into the next campaign with more name-recognition and a little bit smarter than last time.
If someone gives up after one loss, they probably weren't cut out for it. Let's hope that Andrew, Stacy, Beto and all the other new candidates don't get discouraged.

(659 posts)I've been more invested in the governor races in FL and GA, almost as much as my own state. The new crop of Dems has certainly reenergized my interest and hope for the future of the party and country!

(6,137 posts)each of them is easily presidential material. If they can turn red states blue, they can win anywhere.
