The Last Three Days

Found online

3 Days, 3 Things You Can Do!

We have THREE DAYS LEFT! If after two years of Trump you are not convinced of One Basic Truth -- that he has outsmarted us, outwitted us and outrun us, from his winning the White House by losing the election (3M votes!) to passing his historic monster-size tax cut for the rich to getting Brett "Beer" Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court -- then we are headed for certain doom on Tuesday. If you were one of those people who, in the summer of 2016, started throwing a party in your head because there was "no doubt!" we were going to have our first woman president -- and "NO WAY!" that "idiot Trump" could ever win -- and now this weekend you are convinced that we are "headed to victory!" on Tuesday, then I'm sorry to tell you that you are contributing to our potential defeat on Tuesday.

No matter what the polls or the pundits say, we must spend every waking moment in the next 72 hours working our tails off as if Donald J. Trump is about to get a two-year free pass to do whatever the F he wants to this country. Put this thought in you head: The Republicans will increase their seats in the Senate and they will retain the House by just one seat come this Tuesday. Deny that possibility at your own peril.

Unless...

Listen -- We are the majority in this country. The Republicans have only won the popular vote ONCE in 30 YEARS! We've won 6 of the last 7 presidential votes and yet we hold zero power. This has to stop. The Democratic Party hacks -- the old guard in power that hates its growing progressive wing -- have messed this up for us for 30 friggin' years.

So I'm pleading with you to not sit back during these last 72 hours thinking that somebody else is going to take us to victory on Tuesday. That power rests only with YOU and me. We have to do the WORK right now -- today, tomorrow, Monday -- and get out a massive vote.

Here's 3 simple things you can do to make this happen:

1. TheLastWeekend.org
https://thelastweekend.org/
One easy way to get involved TODAY is to go to TheLastWeekend.org. The people at Swing Left have set up this excellent site to plug you in to the grassroots campaigning that's taking place these three days near where you live. Go there now and get involved!

2. Take Election Day Off!
I know, easy for me to say. Most people cannot afford to take a day off. BUT -- if you can, every single candidate out there desperately needs your help. Making calls. Knocking on doors. Giving people rides to the polls. Blasting on social media. Helping at the voting locations.

Students can do this, too. There's a nationwide movement called WalkOutToVote.org. https://walkouttovote.org/
Over 600 high schools and colleges have local organizations leading walkouts at schools all over the country on Election Day. Students will march to nearby polling places and line the sidewalk asking voters to remember that it is THEIR future that is in their hands when they vote.

I know I'm asking you to make a sacrifice by walking out or calling in sick or taking the day off. But if there were ever a time to make a one day sacrifice, this dark moment we are in is just such a time. I wouldn't ask you for it if I didn't mean it deep in my bones and in my heart. I promise I'll make it up to you some day!

3. Make a List of 5 Friends/Family Who Probably Don't Vote and Make Them Your Responsibility.
This is the easy one. We all know someone(s) who, for a host of reasons, don't always vote. A single mom with three kids holding down two jobs. A person who is disabled or not feeling well this week and unable to get out of the house. People who have so much going on it's slipped their mind that Tuesday is the midterms. Citizens who have given up on a corrupt political system that is bought and paid for by the wealthy. Voters who are simply tired of seeing the same old hacks on the ballot -- politicians who do very little to make their lives any better.

And then there are the people who live in states where Republicans work overtime trying to suppress the vote with voter ID laws, moving precincts around, and simply not letting certain people vote when they show up to the polls.

These are the reasons most people don't make it to the ballot box. Yes, of course, there are those who are lazy and ignorant and apathetic -- but they are NOT the majority of nonvoters.

You know the people in your family or amongst your friends, co-workers and neighbors who could use a friendly, outstretched hand on Tuesday. Make a list of them and reach out to them. Don't shame them or lecture them. Listen to them. Agree with them as to how messed up the system is. But then show them how this election is different. Point out that Tuesday's ballot is full of new, fresh progressive candidates. A record number of women and young people are running. This is not your grandfather's old-school election. This is an uprising! This is when we can stick it to those who have run this country down. This is our moment -- ALL of us who are not haters but lovers of democracy and inclusion.

Invite them to go vote with you. Take them out to breakfast or lunch or dinner afterward. Make it a party. Bring beer! This has the possibility of being an historic day that will be remembered forever -- "and you don't want to miss out on it!"

So there's three things you can do in the next three days. Start right now! There's no time to waste.

Remind everyone that if they can sit in a football stadium in the rain and snow to cheer on their team...then can wait in line to cheer on their country.

We who have voted and the resources need to get out in the rain too to drive people, especially the elderly to the polls. We need to encourage especially black voters to come out in the rain anyway, bad weather is a big factor in African American communities. We need to help ALL those who hesitate to come out in the weather.

IN ALL CASES, BE CAREFUL. Some dangerous weather is forecast in some areas across the south. Applause for all of those who stood in line to vote early. I will be at the poll with umbrellas and rain ponchos (they are pretty cheap and can be purchased at drug stores, dollar stores, and Oriental Trading outlets. Get three or four and have them in your vehicles to lend to people who might need to stand in line. They usually cover from head to ankle. Don't be spoofed by the weather reports JUST BE PREPARED.

GOOD LUCK OUT THERE AND HAPPY VOTING!!
