1. Republicans always need a group to hate

They can’t really hate minorities because that would show them to be racists.
They can’t really hate the LGBTQ community because that would show them to be homophobes.
They can’t really hate non-Christians because that would make them bigots and first amendment hypocrites.
They can’t hate women because that would be sexists and they need their votes.
They can’t hate Jewish people because that would make them anti-semites.
They can’t really hate liberals because it fuels terrorism by their supporters.

A nationalist ideology fueled by hate and resentment requires an enemy. And who better to pick on than foreigners that can’t vote?

All of the groups that I mentioned have been the subject of their hate in the last two years and many of them for much longer. But they know they can’t win if they go after all of them.
