"SNIP....
President Trump on Saturday told supporters that migrants will end up camping out on lawns if Floridas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum wins the upcoming election. Speaking at a rally in Pensacola, Florida, Trump said Gillum, who could become Floridas first black governor, is not equipped for the job. Its not for him, he said, after dubbing Gillum a radical socialist. He went on to claim Gillum wants to flood your cities with criminal aliens. Gillum pledged his support to end all borders. Do you believe that? End borders. So when you have people camping out on your front lawn, remember Gillum. Thats whatll happen, he said. The president appeared to be referring to Gillums support for a comprehensive immigration overhaul that would replace ICE with a more compassionate and focused agency than the one he said Trump has turned into a police and child separation agency.

Migrant gangs coming for our lake homes, Minnesota retiree warns nation
First they came for our jobs. Then they came for our crime which they could only do in their spare time because, you know, the job thing. Now theyre coming for our lake homes.
They is a caravan of migrants escaping the violence of Central America. The group, numbering as many as 7,000, is presently in southern Mexico, marching north to the U.S. border.
It may take some time, since theyre broke. And on foot. And walking across a continent never goes as swiftly as planned. But if they reach Americas southern border, analysts believe theyre a threat to infiltrate the U.S. roofing and fruit-picking industries, while possibly filling low-level vacancies in nursing homes....
...According to a September Star Tribune poll, immigration is the No. 1 issue for supporters of GOP gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson. Its certainly a major fear for Carol Shields, 75, a retired accountant from northern Minnesota.
She warned the New York Times that the migrants, now 2,000 miles from the U.S. border, could reach Texas and simply keep walking, all the way to Minnesota woods country, where they would take over lake homes and cabins after they got done taking our jobs and our crime, of course.
Whats to stop them? asked Shields. We have a lot of people who live on lakes in the summer and winter someplace else. When they come back in the spring, their house would be occupied.

(28,075 posts)my friend's dad owned his until he was 90 and then signed it over to the kids.
There are still a lot of cabins (what they are normally called) that are still only used for the summer because they were not built to be livable in the winter, though it is getting more common to build an all season dwelling. They still get called "cabins" even when they're nicer than the average suburban home. Rarely do you hear someone refer to their "lake home" but you will hear them say they are "going to the lake" or "going up north to the lake".
The boat may depend on the size of the lake and why the owner wants one (fishing boat or a pontoon to just cruise around the lake).

"Man wants to meet woman with boat. Please send picture of boat."
I lived in Wisconsin for a long time and it was pretty much the same thing except many said "cottage" and it was "by the lake" in Wisconsinese. When I was a kid we went to the Lake Wininbigoshish/Cutfoot Sioux area (Deer River) every summer from the Chicago area. Privies, pumped water, woodstoves.
Thanks for your reply.

(24,259 posts)Mind bogglingly stupid to buy this Trumpass whopper.
So, Trump is basically saying that our troops and he can't stop a thousand or so exhausted, scared and hurting human beings from crossing the border between Mexico and the US. The fact is, if those migrants can cross the border and get all the way to Florida, the one responsible is TRUMP.
Gads but I hope Gillum wins and we have a Bluenami Tuesday. We need checks and balances now more than ever with Trump in office.

(22,350 posts)The attacks against gubernatorial candidate Upton Sinclair featured fictional mobs of hoboes ready to invade California:
...MGM also put its filmmaking machinery to work. Packaged with its feature films, the studio distributed fake newsreels designed to scare voters away from Sinclair. Masquerading as California Election News, with the MGM or affiliate name appearing nowhere, these newsreels featured a narrator who calls himself the Inquiring Cameraman, asking people on the street their preferred candidate in supposedly candid interviews. MGM played on Depression-era Californians fears of unemployed people moving west en masse from other states and showcased those deemed undesirables people who appeared poor, homeless, dirty, or illiterate declaring their sympathies with Sinclair, while citizens who appeared clean and educated were shown supporting the incumbent Republican, Frank Merriam.
