He was scared sh*tless over the possibility of being picked for the jury. To his relief, the trial wound up being postponed for several months when one of Gotti's main associates was killed by a car bomb. The prospective jurors were thus all dismissed.

Earlier this year, when the question of juror safety in the El Chapo trial came up, Chapo himself 'promised' that he would not attempt to have any of the future killed. There you go!
