'If I can go at 106, everyone should go'

By Natalie Matthews
WRAL.com editor

DURHAM, N.C. — Catherine Ferrell may be 106 years old, but she did not let that stop her from voting on Tuesday morning.

"I lived during a time when you couldn't vote," she said. "I have never missed a voting opportunity.”

Ferrell, of Durham, said her grandson took her to the polls, and she urged everyone to get out and vote ...

Her grandparents, folks she may have had personal interaction with, were most likely born into slavery. She was born before women had the constitutional right to vote. Amazing and beautiful.

My 103 year old grandmom was a die-hard Dem. She died 3 years ago. If she saw what has happened since her death, it would have killed her instead of "old age". She would swear in both Italian and English about the GOP, especially Reagun and Bush #1 and #2. Three more generations have been straight Dem, 100%. She would be proud of her great granddaughter who voted for the first time 2 years ago.
