Are these issues now safe...

ACA and pre-existing conditions, saving social security and medicaid, DACA, Mueller's investigation, no more tax cuts for the rich, the House investigates and subpoenas tRump's taxes and all obstruction and emoluments issues and tRump impeachment (yes, I know we need the Senate to get him out of office)?

Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid seem safe. Trump can still try to shut down Mueller, but the House Judiciary Committee can simply revive the investigation. And, of course, any further legislative proposals from the White House are dead in the water.

The ACA is, unfortunately, another matter. There’s no chance it will be repealed legislatively, but the current battle is in the courts, where a bunch of red states are suing, claiming that, with the individual mandate now repealed by last year’s tax law, the whole ACA is unenforceable, and must be shut down. It will, inevitably, be decided by the current SCOTUS, and the DoJ has already declared they won’t defend the ACA in that case. It should be observed that, when the ACA first came before the Supreme Court in 2012, Justice Kennedy (who, of course, was replaced by Kavanaugh) was on the losing side of a 5-4 decision upholding it, so the presence of Rapey Brett on the Court doesn’t necessarily spell its doom; we can only wait and see.

And, sadly, DACA is anything but safe. It was never approved legislatively, but only by an Obama executive order, so the only way Trump could be prevented from repealing it and starting deportations is if legislation is passed by both the newly-Democratic House and the increasingly-Republican Senate, and even that won’t be enough if Trump vetos it.

I desperately need the ACA. I wonder if the new House can stop that idiotic wall.
