My friend lost his re-election bid
Hes a friend of 28 years and a good person. Hes a retired scientist, having previously worked for medical labs in San Diego and Hawaii. More recently, retired from his lifes work, he worked on the parks commission in a small Oregon city to which he had retired, and when a vacancy came up on the city council he was chosen by the council unanimously to fill the spot.
He ran yesterday for a four year term. A former mayor came out of retirement to run against my friend. He said my friend would bring California values to the city; homeless people will be camping on your front yard; your taxes will triple to pay for all the illegals my friend will invite to the city after he makes it a sanctuary city.
He was attacked for running a TV ad in which he said he wanted to make the city a better place for everyone. My friend wanted to build more affordable housing; to build a new medical clinic/urgent care center; and provide some form of public transit (shuttle vans?) for the citizens without cars to get to work, shopping, doctors appointments. The complaint: Why would someone running for city council run a TV ad?
Out of about a thousand votes cast, he lost by around 140 votes.
Perhaps his being openly gay had something to do with the old timers voting against him.
Just venting
