A recount will be conducted in Floridas hard-fought U.S. Senate race after challenger Rick Scotts (R) lead over Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) fell below the threshold of half of one percent, the Gainesville Sunreports.
Said Nelson: We are proceeding to a recount.

(47,282 posts)He's been Florida's senator since 2001. There's no reason for him to just let it go that easily.

(11,088 posts)And it looks like there is a lot left to be counted.
I imagine it falling below .5 is likely for a machine recount and in the senate falling below .25 for a hand recount is also a good possibility.

(37,648 posts)Whether it's worth the time depends on the kinds of machines they used. If total electronic, then all they do is push a button to recalculate. It doesn't mean much.
But if they scanned hand-punched cards, or written absentee/provisional ballots, that's more meaningful.

Florida sustained major damage from the hurricane that struck it a few months ago. Aside from the crooked Governor--Rick Scott--and the Repubs in power who, I'm sure, attempted any number of voter suppression techniques; does the hurricane play any role and people GOTV? I haven't heard one word about that.

(16,993 posts)repub so I didn't think it played that much of a role.

(3,030 posts)I would have assumed that they would have moved to something more reliable, in which case I have a lot more hope about Arizona than Florida.
