David Ian Long has been identified as the suspect in the mass shooting at a California nightclub, ABC News reports, citing law enforcement officials briefed on the probe. Neighbors told ABC News that he went by his middle name.
The shooting happened late Wednesday inside Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks. At least a dozen people were killed, including a sheriff's sergeant, Ron Helus. None of the other victims have been identified.
Earlier Thursday morning, authorities said the gunman was found dead inside the nightclub. The motive is not clear and is under investigation, the law enforcement sources said.
The suspect was a white man in his late twenties, according to ABC News. The Associated Press reported that he was 29.

(251 posts)For my ptsd there isn't a typical case. Trust me as someone who spent 8 days in ICU from a legit suicide attempt.

(12,581 posts)For whatever reason, he wasn't getting what he thought was his due, and he wanted others to hurt the way he hurt, to know what he felt.
He wanted to stop the hurting. But he also wanted people to pay for his hurt.
I've known people like that over the years. Both in the military and out.
On edit - PTSD is only a contributing factor to this. It isn't the only factor.
