After Two People Said No, Chris Christie Now Being Seriously Considered For AG

By Kate Riga
November 9, 2018 7:56 am

After the White House was met with rejection from two potential attorney general candidates, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie is becoming a likelier and likelier possibility, according to a Thursday Politico report.

President Donald Trump reportedly thinks that Christie deserves the post after patiently enduring the humiliation of being completely passed over during the 2016 transition.

Christie was spotted at the White House on Thursday for a meeting with Jared Kushner about prison reform. He is reportedly working to mend his relationship with Kushner, one that has been acrimonious since Christie landed Kushner’s father in jail.

Per Politico, Christie could, however, face calls to recuse himself from special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe if he got the job due to his role in Trump’s 2016 election. A recusal would almost certainly earn Trump’s enduring fury, as former attorney general Jeff Sessions knows well.

which is one of the reasons I think this story is a bullshit distraction from the appointment of Whitaker. Jared probably hates Christie's guts and is the reason Christie got absolutely nothing from Trump after the election.

I don't think Christie is being considered by Trump. This is just a story to take attention away from Whitaker, Trump's stooge, as acting AG. Trump wants Whitaker in there for as long as it takes to get rid of Mueller and the investigations. I don't think Trump is in any hurry to replace him.

On top of that, Christie would have a tough time being confirmed due to Bridgegate, for which I think he got very close to being indicted in NJ. And even if confirmed, Christie would not be the stooge that Whitaker will be with respect to Mueller.

Who would sacrifice their career and reputation for toxic Trump? Just look at the hell he put Sessions through. Or any other cabinet members? Now Trump wants an AG who will break the law for him. The only candidates I can think of who'd volunteer for that sleazy work is Christie and Giuliani. Maybe he'd nominate the security guard of the Trump Tower or some other patsy like this temporary meathead AG.

He apparently didn't understand that you can only recruit TV personalities for your cabinet if they are real people.

He's too much of a wildcard when it comes to "loyalty".

This is why Graham is probably #1 on the list and like Sessions, would have been a Senator who knows the ropes and would be able to get another GOP loon appointed as a temp replacement to fill the term. But Christie might be someone who could replace Rosenstein if Rosenstein is fired (as Christie used to be a U.S. Attorney and knows the ropes).

At least Christie was a US attorney.

I have no idea about Whitaker's background, but he reminds me of Bruce Cutler. (John Gotti's attorney)

I also think Christie's better than Guiliani

Pretty low.
