Does Chris Cuomo Watch CNN?

Last edited Fri Nov 9, 2018, 06:58 PM - Edit history (3)

What the fuck. I'm watching Chris Cuomo on CNN last night and he says "You've got to give the President credit. He won every Senate seat where he campaigned" Are you fucking kidding me? Does he pay attention?

Let's go through the list. There was not a single Republican victory in a blue state, even though Trump-like candidates were running. In California, the Republicans couldn't even nominate one. Conn., Del., Hi., Mass., Md. NJ, NM., NY, RI., VT. and Wash all ended up as huge Democratic wins.

Now, let's look at the solid Red states: The Republican won in Ind., Miss, but the Miss special is still up for grabs in a run-off., Missouri, Nebraska, ND., Tenn., Texas, Utah and Wyoming. Big fucking deal. Utah is far from a Trump Republican and Ruby Red Texas was a nail bitter. He lost two Red States in West Virginia (he went there at least 3 times) and Montana (he went there 4 times).

So, Trump lost 2 of 12 in solid Red States, some close (including 2 states he went to often) and went 0 for 12 in Blue states that were never in doubt for Democrats.

Now, the swing states: Trump's guy got slaughtered in Maine, Michigan (Trump went there a few times), 2 seats in Minnesota (Trump visited there a couple of times), lost in Nevada (Trump was there often), Trump's guy got slaughtered in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisc (all states Trump visited numerous times). We are still waiting on the results in Arizona and Florida, both he went to often. So, Trump lost 9 swing states and is losing in another and they're still counting in the only swing state he's leading in, out of 11.

So let's go over the real record. Trump lost 2 Red States, won no Blue states and lost at least 9 (and probably 10) of 11 swing states.

I'd say Trump got Thumped in the Senate. That's far more accurate than Chris Cuomo's assertion that "Trump won Senate seats everywhere he went"

Nevada and Arizona were two states where he was asked not to campaign since it would hurt the R candidates, and they both lost (or are losing) and those were the only two red Senate seats to flip.
As your OP points out, he did overlook that some blue states where Trump campaigned did not flip. And he tried as hard to flip Mont and WV as anywhere and failed.
Overall he won less than 1/3 of his Twitter endorsements.

They couldn't run for re-election in a Presidential Election year and neither Donnelly nor McCaskill had self-destructive Republican candidates with a rape problem to capitalize on like they did in 2012. Donnelly's loss hurt all the more because he was THE LAST statewide Democratic officeholder here in Indiana. I can't believe that voter suppression of native Americans didn't hurt Heitkamp in Nebraska in the final analysis.

I think mainly because of the governor's races in Ohio and Iowa where the Republican candidates trailed in the polls going into the election.

Never mind that Democrats flipped 7 governorships (including in heavily red Kansas) and held on in Connecticut despite a ton of outside money supporting the Republican.

Incumbent Senators lost Tuesday and that is why Cuomo's comments were made and were essentially correct. Since 1900 the party in power has only won Senate seats 3 times in the first mid term -- and 2 of those were in the early 1900s.

You can't win seats where none exist. If it was Johnson running in Wisconsin, Toomey in Pennsylvania or any number of Republicans in Blue states. There was not a single Republican Senator up for re-election from a blue state in this cycle (Nevada is Purple). If there was, he or she would have been slaughtered as evidenced that the Rebukes lost at least 9 of 11 Purple state senate races.

The map favored Trump, and that's why there was a net gain, even though the Repukes lost two thirds of the seats that were up.

The Democrats have won at least 22 seats. If we can duplicate that in the next 2 cycles, we'll have a veto proof majority.

Nov 2018

This was at 9:15 PM on election night, when our senate chances were less than 2%. Rachel somehow was ignoring that Donnelly already had no chance, Nelson was losing, Bredesen was buried, and Beto was losing ground with every update.

Rachel not only mentioned the possibility of Mississippi special election tipping the balance, but in her typical fashion she continued to repeat the theme.

Finally Chris Matthews reluctantly broke in...uh, Rachel, I don't think the senate looks so good for that side.

I'll continue to stick with Chris Cuomo at 9 PM. He does a great job

Fri Nov 9, 2018, 09:27 PM

Chris Cuomo isn't interested in promoting fairness or truth. Instead, he's trying to crown himself the ultimate centrist -- no matter how extreme one party moves. In Chris Cuomo world the GOP and Democratic party are always equally at fault. Always.

It's a ridiculous position given the right's ever rightward shift (thank you Fox News/Limbaugh/InfoWars...). But acknowledging what's painfully obvious would ruin Cuomo's self-appointed throne, so he continually spews bothsideisms as if proven fact (it's not). Cuomo should be ignored.
