Trudeau on Rain

@DEMS VOTE WE WIN @we_dems 8m8 minutes ago

"As we sit here in the rain, thinking how uncomfortable we must be these minutes as our suits get wet and our hair gets wet and our shoes get wet, I think it's all the more fitting that we remember on that day, in Dieppe, the rain wasn't rain, it was bullets," Justin Trudeau

God Bless the Canadians. The Canadians who went overseas in WW I were all volunteers, and they suffered heavy losses in proportion to their numbers. In the same way that the shared sacrifice of the Revolution, Civil War, and WW II made the United States a nation, Canada's experience in WW I had much the same effect. The battle of Vimy Ridge, in popular memory in Canada, has much the same sort of impact as Yorktown and Gettysburg and Midway and the Ardennes (the Bulge) do in the U.S.

I was thinking about my Marine son and his deployments to Iraq where it rained bullets and mortars over his head. He didn't get to stay home or in a comfortable hotel. Or my career Marine father who didn't get to stay inside in a soft cushy place when he was in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. What an embarrassment Trump is to our country. It makes me so ashamed. Tomorrow is Veteran's Day, and I am sure that he will be strutting around like he is the greatest soldier who ever served our country.

This site has been such a help to me. I am on it daily, several times a day. I very rarely make comments, but Trump just makes my blood boil. I have visited many of those grave sites in France. When my father was stationed in Germany we toured both WWI and WWII cemeteries on Memorial Day. It was an incredibly moving experience. So many lost at such young ages. One of my favorite poems as a child was "In Flanders Fields the poppies blow". When you looked out over cemetery and saw the hundreds of small American flags on each grave, it was burned into my memory forever.

My father died 5 years ago this month at age 97. He was a fighter pilot in the South Pacific in WWII. He was on his way to Japan when the bomb was dropped. He always felt that life after that was icing on a cake. My son really struggled after his second deployment (was in Ramadi) and came back with severe PTSD. He didn't come out of his room for about two years other than for meals. It has been a struggle (lousy VA in Seattle/Tacoma but great VA in Portland/Vancouver where we live now). He is doing very well now, but it has been a major uphill battle since he came home.

...Ramadi was a brutal fight.

A Marine on twitter used the phrase "demilitarizing my consciousness", and I've adopted that as I think it's so descriptive of what we combat vets go through coming home. It took me years, and some therapy, to achieve that.

I am so livid over this shitstain not wanting to be bothered.

But then we all know the enemy in WWI and II are the same people he's aligned himself with now. So of course he can't be inconvenienced to 'honor' them - he would have been on the other side in that war.

Of course not. What Republican would watch that anyway? Their "leader" was holed up in a luxury residence eating Big Macs, watching Fox on satellite feed, and tweeting.

Never, not once in 100 years. 100 years, until now has a sitting US President NOT made a speech at the commemoration of the ending of World War One.
But that changed today. Why? It was RAINING.
Guess what? President Obama did his speech in the rain.
All those troops from not just America, but from so many countries, not just in Europe, but from around the world didn't leave the front lines because of rain.
So I don't want to hear how this current President supports the troops and the military. I don't want him making comments on anyone kneeling or protesting.
He just spit on the grave of thousands and thousands of American soldiers and millions more from other countries because it was RAINING.
If your a veteran of the military, I'd be very upset.
And please, don't try to equivocate with something else. This is a FACT, it's not FAKE news. He cancelled. On your fallen comrades in arms, those who gave the last, full measure for their country. And don't say "it's France, blah, blah.
Read a little history, France was t he ONLY major European power who supported America during the Revolution.
France and the US have always been staunch allies.
This is an insult to them too, if not just for the amount blood that is in the soil of their country.
Just because it was RAINING.
