(51,584 posts)Every time I open the door I am hesitant since the smell of smoke in a sunny sky is NOT GOOD! I have lived through these and it is scary!!!!! We haven't had a big one since 2007 and don't know how long our luck will hold (it is all just dumb luck).

Keep in mind that 90% of Forest Management is Federally Controlled.

(23,307 posts)Wildfires are horrible, terrifying and depressing...I know from experience. They are part of Montana summers every year. Wild land firefighters are heroes in every way! It is disgusting that this pResident cannot acknowledge this.

(13,524 posts)I have been sort of waiting to hear of at least 100 fatalities there...cars lined up to get out got gridlocked, and people just got out and ran...and some of us cannot run...and others had no cars in the first place, so they could not flee
and I hope Im wrong and the missing/death numbers stay low, but

(430 posts)We live in the middle of last year's firestorm. We were very lucky last year. Our air is thick from fires to the north and we are so grateful to all who fight these horrors.
My husband is a residential designer and has been working with friends and neighbors who lost everything last year.
We have learned that it is very important to make sure your insurance coverage is right, and it is well worth the time to take lots of pics of your house and the contents. Putting together an inventory is a big hurdle for a lot of those trying to recover and the visual inventory is very helpful. Just email the pics to yourself, or tuck them away in your favorite cloud storage.
And send our state lots of rain. And soon
