12% Republican defectors to Sinema with only 3% Democrats voting for McSally

https://www.cnn.com/election/2018/exit-polls/arizona/senate

No other state looks like that from the exit polling

I agree it's early in the analysis, and that exit poll with only 1091 respondents may have overstated the gap

IN Midterms GOP consistently votes 42%
Dems 33%
Indies 22%

Public polling consistently showed McSally only gettin 88% of Republicans, which was confirmed with internal polling.

If you mean registered Republicans, probably not many. If you mean Republican-leaning independents, I think quite a few.

Impossible to know especially now when Independents out number both parties in many states. Indies are really D or R but just don't want a party label by their name.

Compared to 8% apiece in 2016 presidential exit poll

https://www.cnn.com/election/2018/exit-polls

So we had half the defectors of 2016 and a net gain but Republicans were actually more loyal than the norm. We gained from Democrats staying home more than Republicans defecting.

There were some exceptions where high crossover helped, like Arizona senate which otherwise could not have been won. Likewise West Virginia senate but that is more normal since many old guard Democrats switched to registered Republican but still can have Democratic tendencies in certain races.

McSally took 88% Republicans while Sinema took 95% Dems.

We split Indies 61/39

Some Republicans voted Green as a general protest.
