Tammy Duckworth: "Today is my alive day".

Tammy Duckworth

@SenDuckworth
Today is my Alive Day, the anniversary of the day I almost died but didn’t. On this day 14 years ago, an RPG tore through the cockpit of the helicopter I was flying over Iraq, taking my legs and partial use of my right arm with it.

When they survived being shot down. I wouldn't be surprised if there are similar celebrations in other services. You know you're lucky when the plane breaks and you survive the landing.

Thank you for your service to the nation both in the military and in your current position. Truly one of America’s finest, and an example to follow which stands in stark contrast to the current crop of sociopathic pseudopatriots masquerading as a Presidential administration.

Thanks for putting it here. She is so badass! I wouldn't wish those injuries on anyone, but to think that she won an election to the Senate afterwards is amazing.

I still get pissed remembering what the GOP did to Max Cleland.

I remember that despicable creature, Ann Coulter, saying about him "Just because you fall on a hand-grenade and lose three limbs doesn't make you a war hero." Max, ever the gentleman, didn't even bother to reply. Others did it for him.

For his bravery in Vietnam, he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. He wrote a great book, "The Heart of a Patriot." He served as the V. A. Administrator from '03 to '07.

If Stacey Abrams wins her election, she will be the first democratic senator elected in GA since Max.

She would make a great Presidential candidate.

I first saw her when C-Span was interviewing wounder vets at Walter Reed Hospital during the Iraq War. She was one of the ones interviewed.
