Well that rainfall can really dangerous.



Because after living with the rats, death, gas, blood, mud, disease, shelling, motor attacks, and boredom some
officer got the idea that you had to leave your trench then and run across the open ground towards the enemy
who had machine guns that could cover the area with a blanket of lead which made the chances of you getting
to the other side's trenches almost zero.

But for those in the trenches it was hell on earth. And the pilots who flew the old wood, wire, and canvas biplanes their life span was about 6 to 8 weeks in some cases.

Not as widely as in WW II, because they weren't as portable then, but the Germans were the first to use them.

Yep. WW I was Hell on Earth, and it's a shame most people know very little about it.

.... w/numbers too. He joined the service in 1917 and they asked him if he wanted to serve
doing shipping and logistics ..... I don't know what they called it then .... in Puerto Rico instead
of going to Europe. He said Puerto Rico would be fine and he wound up in the Navy there.
