Especially when the cemetery is 3.9 miles from the WH and currently takes 11 minutes to drive there, with traffic and all.

Even this excuse wouldn't have flown with today's SNAFU. Arlington is far closer to the WH than the French cemetery was to where he was staying and motorcades are such a regular occurrence in the Beltway it wouldn't have fazed anyone.
