It's a bit tricky because different sources list different races as decided/pending, but I believe the count currently stands at:

Democrats: 229 seats (+34)

Republicans: 198 seats (-34)

Pending:
CA 39: R leading by 711 votes out of 185000
CA 45: D leading by 261 votes out of 233,000
GA 7: R leading by 533 votes out of 280,000
ME 2: R leading by 1910 votes out of 284,000
NY 22: D leading by 2742 votes out of 238,000
NY 27: R leading by 2980 votes out of 278,000
TX 23: R leading by 1150 votes out of 209,000
UT 4: D leading by 1229 votes out of 230,000

Note that the Democrats actually are up 35 seats (and the Republicans down by 35) compared to 2016;this is because the Democrats flipped one seat in a special election between November 2016 and November 2018.

Note also that ME uses a ranked vote system if the leading candidate has less than 50 percent, which is the case now.

2. UPDATE: CA 45 and ME2 declared for Democrats

By my count that gives the Democrats 36 pick ups so far, with a good shot at 3 more. Adding the one pick up earlier in the year, that would be 40 seats gained in 2018.
