Schumer lost some senators and no one is talking about replacing him.
As I have been posting here - misogyny. Pure and simple, masquerading as "new blood." Replace her with who? Young Turks with no experience in running a legislative body?

(136,562 posts)The 2 houses are very different, and they are governed differently. This year's class has just begun learning what it can achieve, and how.

I wish folks would recognize the huge management skills doing that job requires.
I expect there are others who could do it, but whomever it is must have time in the chamber, as well as the inherent necessary management skills.

(6,709 posts)That said, in what sense did either one of them "win" or "lose" their respective houses? Did they pick the candidates? Run the campaigns? GOTV? Sure they raised money but so did everybody, in overwhelming amounts and not from big donors. So?

He made a mistake, and paid for this. We did have Hillary as our candidate, didn't we? No second chance?

Y'know, there's a thing in court when, if a witness is found to be lying once, all of his/her testimony can be ignored. Personally I hold news anchors and journalists to the same standard. And please note I said "lies", not "mistakes."

How quickly we forget. And how low are our standards?

(22,997 posts)Id been thinking that having a divisive Speaker might not be the best way to start things out, but Rachel was very persuasive.
Which is why Im not behind the CBCs decision about Tom Perez. Why why why do Democrats so readily turn on their own? Thanks for the 50-state strategy, Howard! Great job! Lets not do THAT again!

(36,602 posts)I know more about houses than all the leaders and speakers and carpenters in Congress! I have a plan, a secret plan, the best plan and I will fix it all! The House of Representatives is a deep state invention by Obama and Hillary and only I can fix it!
Ok, that's nuts. So is letting Repugs and that #fivewhiteguys gang pick the Speaker. Nancy Pelosi knows how to herd cats while navigating the byzantine rules of Congress, written and unwritten. The House won't ask me for my opinion, but I'd love to see her take that gavel back.

(36,602 posts)She's a tricky one, that Nancy. This stuff of talking to voters about health care was a devious plot! Why didn't she focus on Cheetolini and his rallies, since the news and Cheetolini said the midterms were about him?
From a NYT interview of Ruth Buffalo, OP posted by iluvtennis at

What were the biggest issues you focused on in your campaign?
Access to health care. I knocked over 6,500 doors, and that was the most common theme I found at the doors from voters. Another issue that came up was our education system, K-12 and higher ed, and then also property taxes. People are afraid to be thrown out on the street, to lose their homes because the property taxes continue to increase.

What a concept.. people care about their available access to Great Health Care. shocking.

(36,602 posts)It's going to be easier to do things at the national level when there are state representatives who are focused on the same things. Flipping so many state offices makes sure there are people in the pipeline for national seats in the future.
It's just nice to see Democrats getting it together, and Nancy Pelosi has played a big part in accomplishing that.
