Honest question... Why does Trump believe his perpetual scowl makes for good visuals?

To the extent he has any skills at all, it is the showman image creation which lends unearned credibility to his lies. He's all about image.

So, his perpetual scowl is obviously purposeful. Not a relaxed face, but a forced scowl. What is it he thinks it conveys?

Back during the 2016 campaign?

Said he wanted to convey a Churchill look.

Whatever that means.

When in doubt, pout.

President Trump told staffers working on his campaign that he wanted to look 'like [Winston] Churchill' in photographs and images, believing that he would appear tougher according to a new report in The New York Times.

That is why Donnie, like Winnie, reportedly prefers to scowl, squint and maintain a general sourpuss on his face whenever he is in front of a camera.

It also explains why President Trump may have returned the bust of the prime minister to the Oval Office, with the proximity to his own desk allowing him to practice the downcast frown and furrowed brow favored by the former leader of the United Kingdom.

And using threats will promote himself as all powerful , and successful, when it does the opposite, and instead it makes him look weaker , and incompetent. His act isn't working now too.

He has no self awareness of how others see him. Even when he reads or sees the news about how people perceive him, he is in complete denial -- fake news. He is a bitter, angry, resentful, man filled with envy for others with more fame, more respect, more accolades, etc.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/21/us/politics/trump-obama-wiretapping-motivation.html

Toughness, more than any other attribute, is what Mr. Trump has sought to project during his short and successful political career — and he believes his behavior makes him look tougher, no matter what the press thinks.

As a presidential candidate, he wanted to look dour, and vetoed any campaign imagery that so much as hinted at weakness, aides said. Which is why every self-selected snapshot — down to the squinty-eyed scowl attached to his Twitter account — features a tough-guy sourpuss. “Like Churchill,” is what Mr. Trump would tell staffers when asked what look he was going for.
