Jared Golden was in a 4-way race and no one got 50 percent of the vote. Thus, the ME SOS did an instant run-off. The 2nd and 3rd choices of the candidates with the least number of votes were added to the final count until a winner breached the 50 percent mark.

With no previous track record we weren't sure but the usual rule of thumb is that people who like the incumbent will vote for them but the undecided votes will almost all ways split against the incumbent.
Going to second choice votes is as undecided as you can get.
