Trump is power mad, I believe he is insatiably craving to observe through others (television) his effect on everything within his reach.

One of the most ultimate expressions of ultimate power is control, to weild compelling force over another's life. I have zero doubt that he had advanced knowledge of Khashoggi's fate, at the least he LIHOP.

With this in mind, it's not a leap to see him eager to read the inevitable, brutal end of this person's life on Fox News. Safe on the other side of the screen, he can gloat with impunity and congratulate himself on his own wickedness. Like all psychic vampires, Trump feeds directly off of human suffering.

I didn't think the Saudis or Erdogan need compell him, he'd drop this man in the grinder simply because he could. Deriving political capital from it is just a bonus.
