Whitaker is at the most critical moment in his life.

Time will tell if Matthew Whitaker is able to navigate his way out of the extreme danger he is most certainly in. If he is smart he will resign or recuse himself immediately. If he isn't smart and tries to play this Trump's way, his future and his freedom will be in jeopardy.

Imagine Whitaker being given a briefing on the progress of the Mueller investigation. He is told that Mueller's team has dozens of sealed indictments that include Don Jr., Jared K. and maybe even D. Trump.

Who in their right mind would try and obstruct an investigation that has already amassed so much evidence of wrongdoing and secured dozens of indictments for obstruction against other Trump associates? Adding to the danger that Whitaker has placed himself in is the speeding freight train of a Democratic House of Representatives about to pull into Washington.

The last and surely the most potent sign of impending danger should be obvious to Whitaker - Trump is loyal to no one.

We will find out soon how smart Whitaker is.

there's still tens of millions of voters ready to support Trump.
I'm not sure reason is operative here.

The Deplorables are mostly a lost cause. Many will lose interest in Trump when they see their Trump Tax Hike in April. The rest? Screw 'em. We can save the country despite them.

Many other careers are already in the shitter (the deep, masculine one, maybe) on account of Trump. Some people seem to think they can survive working in the Trump WH, but it never works out for them: Jeff Sessions, H.R. McMaster, Dr. Ronny Jackson, Reince Priebus, Rex Tillerson, Gary Cohn, Steve Bannon, just to name a few.

It is worth noting the Watergate scandals resulted in 69 government officials being charged and 48 being found guilty, including the Nixon Administration's attorney general (Kleindiesnt), former attorney general (Mitchell), former secretary of commerce (Stans), former White House chief of staff (Haldeman), and (at least) four White House counsels (attorneys), among others. They above does not include Nixon's VP, Agnew, who plead to entirely separate corruption charges and resigned.

Nixon, of course, got a pardon.

Why any of these Trump Administration shitbirds would think they can come out of all this as anything more than roadkill for Trump can only be their own self-delusion.

figured he could get rid of the indictments for previous crimes to go away if he got in at the DoJ. Which makes me think there was no vetting whatsoever for this guy before he was put in the WH to begin with. He sure as hell wouldn't have passed muster at a GS position.
