George Conway: Republican Party has become a 'personality cult' under Trump

Michael Isikoff Chief Investigative Correspondent, Yahoo News•November 16, 2018

WASHINGTON — George T. Conway III, the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, said the Republican Party has become “a personality cult” under President Trump and that he would “move to Australia” rather than vote for the president again.

“I don’t feel comfortable being a Republican anymore,” Conway said in an exclusive interview for the Yahoo News podcast “Skullduggery” about his decision to drop his party registration earlier this year. “I think the Republican Party has become something of a personality cult.”

Asked if he thinks the president is fully stable, Conway responded: “No comment.”

Conway’s comments came just days after spearheading the formation of a new legal group, called Checks and Balances, set up to provide a platform for conservative lawyers to speak out against what he sees as Trump’s violations of “timeless principles” and constitutional norms.

cleanse their image now that they installed a couple illigetimate SCJ's. It's the beginning of remaking themselves so they can bray again and shame everyone who don't think like they do. The GOP will be doing the same soon...so they can stand at the podium and scream fiscal conservatism, morals and values, and piety. Same cycles...different days.

“I think the Republican Party has become something of a personality cult.”
Trump is not unique. The cult aspect is true for other well-known politicians as well. Oddly enough, those politicians who have this cult "status" (I'm sure there's a better word, but that will have to do for now) are among the ones that I despise the most. I guess what I'm trying to say is that a cult-like politician's perceived "popularity" has very little to do with the politician's actual achievements or ability or political acumen. Instead, it seems to be more closely aligned with the particular politician's ability to tap-in to the fears and bigotry and prejudices and sense of entitlement that is held by his/her "followers".

Heaven save us from political cult leaders and their followers.

"I don't feel comfortable being a Republican right now."

(thought balloon)
But I feel comfortable being married to Kellyanne Conway right now and basking in the attention it affords me.
That I have no problem with.
