kept the Vietnam war going for at least four more years and got a lot of people killed - just so Nixon could win the election.

While he was running for President and with no diplomatic credentials, he made a secret deal with somebody in Khomeini's circle (might have been the Iranian ambassador) and made Jimmy Carter look like a fool. It was all very underhanded and traitor-y, but Reagan got away with it because Iran wanted to help him get elected.

I hope Rachel does a show on that sometime. Nixon's betrayal was much worse of course, since the Vietnam War continued for another 5+ years and so many died in the meantime. It's shocking to me that LBJ buried (or destroyed) the evidence against Nixon. I guess he thought it was the high road, but in retrospect ...

It seems that republicans have to cheat in order to win and that isn't a recent phenomenon. It has been happening for decades, yet voters keep electing them.

The Algiers Accords and Warren Christopher? Wasn't a deal struck that hostages would be released on, coincidentally, January 20th? I remember Reagan making the announcement in his inaugural speech, and he got the credit for it, not Carter. He never corrected that myth either. Prick.

Makes one wonder if since he hated JFK so much for Kennedy taking the election away from him was he involved in some way with JFK's death.

If he could commit treason to get the presidency, he could want to get Kennedy out of his way too.

...at, yes, the depravity of the man. Even more than we ever imagined.

Then think on down the years how Reagan made a deal for the hostages to make sure Jimmy Carter lost his re-election bid.

And again and again.

How long has the Republican Party been rotten at the core in foreign policy? Well, since Nixon.

If Trump signals the end of the GOP as predicted by Never-Trumpers (as frankly we all hope) -- then damn it all. Just damn.

We need a strong two-party system in this country to keep both sides honest. It won't be healthy for the Democrats to be the sole power in California overlong -- we need the loyal opposition. At the federal level -- yes, we Dems need to take it back and be there long enough to clean out the corruption for real, however long that takes. But not forever, lest we become like them in the end.

God damn Richard Nixon (and Newt Gingrich while I'm at it) to Hell.
