Trump signals US won't punish Saudi crown prince over Khashoggi killing

This is before trump has seen the Intelligence agencies final report....

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump signaled Tuesday that he will not take strong action against Saudi Arabia or its Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the death and dismemberment of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The White House has been struggling to square a widespread sense that the crown prince directed the killing with its desire for Saudi support for its foreign policy priorities and a need to manage close relationships between bin Salman and the Trump administration.

In an exclamation-mark laden statement subtitled "America First!" Trump said that "our intelligence agencies continue to assess all information, but it could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event -- maybe he did and maybe he didn't!"

"That being said," Trump continued, "we may never know all of the facts surrounding the murder of Mr. Jamal Khashoggi. In any case, our relationship is with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They have been a great ally in our very important fight against Iran."

The Saudi deal is supposedly $110 BILLION. Seems like a lot of money, but that is divided up over 10 years, so it amounts to $11 Billion per year only.

The US GDP was about $19.5 TRILLION in 2017 and is growing a bit nearly every year.

$11 billion/year out of $19.5 trillion/year is a little under 6/100 of 1% of the US GDP

Trump is refusing to punish Saudi Arabia over what amounts to peanuts in the grand scheme of the overall economy - unless, of course, Trump and/or Kushner are getting bigly kickback

but, Trump and his allies are claiming that the deal is too big to kill economically, but the truth is that the numbers just don't hold up to even that excuse.

I’m not sure I’ve ever really celebrated anyone’s death. Been relieved, been ruefully glad they’re gone...but they better cremate that monster and scatter his ashes somewhere I can’t get to because my aging bladder and I are going to make a pilgrimage.

I think the insanely loud and emboldened minority are just that, insane and loud. They want to blame, just as he does. Sometimes they HAVE gotten a raw deal from life and exploitation and unfairness, but he’s also the Exploiter in Chief, who promises they don’t have to do the work to get out of this, that he’ll just give them the pony. They won’t rally without him in any big way. They don’t know how.
