Turkey Day with repub family...............

It was what I call "fake family holiday dinner" .

We did not talk politics or religion but teenagers stayed on their phones and daughter can't stand us but she wants her children to "experience" the traditional Thanksgiving family dinner BUT all we get is rolled eyes and kids on the cells. Nobody talks as a family. No family togetherness. All fake. I am done! We have played "fake family" for one too many times. We are outta here!!!!! Good luck to them for their "fake family Christmas"! Lolololololol!!!!!!!
Ain't cooking MY ass off!!!!!

We do not talk politics, just family and general topics. I am lucky in that my siblings and immediate family are all Democrats.

"Children should be seen and not heard," and "Don't speak unless you're spoken to." Kids on their cell phones are doing exactly that.

There's a great line in "Illusions, Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah", "We rarely grow up in our spiritual family." The people I consider family aren't related by DNA but by a shared world view. We don't agree on everything but we agree on everything that's important.

I can't in good consciences just sit there while my Republican cousin blathers on like Joseph Gobbles! Told him one time on the phone that we have nothing in common and to just forget about me. He must have taken it to heart!

Sad but true for many. Spend the day doing something that makes you happy instead of miserable.

If not for them I wouldn't bother with Thanksgiving. By the time I'm done cooking, putting away food and doing dishes everyone is ready to go home. I just feel like the hired help.

To the Florida Keys, another, and then once to St Croix and then another time to St Thomas. All the trips were a lot more fun than spending all day in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up for the boys to be done eating in 20 minutes and wanting to leave the table to do other things rather than sit and talk to parents.

All were much more memorable Thanksgivings.

After my dad died. My family lives with my mom, and we make each other comfortable. Wont regret my decision to move back in. The house we all live in is big enough for us. This way we enjoy each others companies and help out. Prime example: I helped her out with replacing the TV, even had to go out twice to get the right mounting screws. Job accomplished.

Happen in my liberal family Holidays too.

I hate labeling the next generation, but I also cannot believe that their parents allow them to isolate themselves within cell phones, video games, etc. They show up at Family events, and we are lucky if we get a hello, then we never see them until it’s time to leave.
Even during dinner they are using devices. (Although so are the parents)

Being social is just something I do not do well
We do have aloners group here at du
Had a very close friend that easily could have turned romantic. Nothing developed and one big reason is that her extended family would gather together over a hangnail.
I essentially had turkey day with one also loner friend.
A buffet
That is about as much family as I can handle
