I just can't. It goes against every fiber of my being. I was glad he resigned. He did it before an investigation could be done, too.
He was in a powerful position when he was in both in entertainment and politics. He abused what was given to him in one of the worst ways. He can't even remember those times either.
I admired him a lot, but when that first photo appeared it changed everything for me. I was in the Army and experienced enough harassment by men in power that I have very little reason let bygones be bygones while allowing them to remain in that same position.
Is it a double standard? Of course. tRump was voted in by many a woman who were willing to let it go. He was not held liable as many men were as a result of the #metoo movement.
So many yell about due process, but thing is this is not a court of law we're talking about here. This is public opinion, this is the dems not being hypocritical when their political lives are on the line as well. If Franken hadn't resigned, he was tainted goods. His credibility goes out the window. Not only that, the women who came forward would have gotten the message that their voices do not matter.
I feel bad that his family has had to suffer this drama, but I don't feel bad for him. In fact, he did the right thing by resigning and I think he's a better man for being that courageous. He was honest about his failings and his apology was heartfelt, IMO.
I'll apologize now because I know this goes against the majority of DU. I've been around here off and on for a while. This has been with me a long time and only now have I felt comfortable expressing my feelings on it.

This happened before he was voted in.
He resigned his senate seat as a result.

(31,011 posts)Many of us express contrary opinions and many tell those what they think, whether they agree with it or not.
A different opinion doesn't make it less than another. It's like all the others...an opinion.
