Its a political strategy nearly as old as the Thanksgiving holiday itself: release the stories you want covered the least on the Black Friday, in the hopes that no one will cover or read them.
In this case, the famously climate-denying Trump administration decided that newsdump Friday would be the best time to release a damning report about the already horrific effects of climate change worldwide:
The federal government on Friday released a long-awaited report with an unmistakable message: The effects of climate change, including deadly wildfires, increasingly debilitating hurricanes and heat waves, are already battering the United States, and the danger of more such catastrophes is worsening.
The reports authors, who represent numerous federal agencies, say they are more certain than ever that climate change poses a severe threat to Americans health and pocketbooks, as well as to the countrys infrastructure and natural resources. And while it avoids policy recommendations, the reports sense of urgency and alarm stands in stark contrast to the lack of any apparent plan from President Trump to tackle the problems, which, according to the government he runs, are increasingly dire.

These Summary Findings represent a high-level synthesis of the material in the underlying report. The findings consolidate Key Messages and supporting evidence from 16 national-level topic chapters, 10 regional chapters, and 2 chapters that focus on societal response strategies (mitigation and adaptation). Unless otherwise noted, qualitative statements regarding future conditions in these Summary Findings are broadly applicable across the range of different levels of future climate change and associated impacts considered in this report.

I believe many of the lower-educated, lowest-informed, dumpest of innertube users don't expect their twits or other random brain-farts to be recorded forever. Even the FCC (in the US) or other state-controlled media can prevent each of us from obtaining, storing, and sharing information before the "Truth are Lies" commissars try to exert control.

(411 posts)Once that Arctic ice is gone, and it could go sooner than that report says, we can kiss our wheat and corn crops goodbye. So, it's not like republicans can just tell their butler to fire the footman and all will be well in the mansion. I mean, they gotta eat too.
