Gerald Ford, a Republican, bypassed the Democrat who was Speaker of the House to be sworn in as President and then pardoned Nixon. A lot of Nixon's aides got what seemed a slap on the wrist. Left me pretty hollow from the experience.

There is a measure of satisfaction and justice being done if those responsible are held to account for what they put us through. It is not a good feeling if that doesn't happen.
