New York TimesIn some ways, they are a typical political power couple seeking to Make America Great Again.
They are throwing a $5 million fund-raiser for President Trump this winter, and are quick to make it known that they have the presidents sons cellphone numbers on speed dial. They have poured more than $50,000 of their own money into supporting the president, who smiles in photos on the bookshelves of their home.
But Bill White and his husband, Bryan Eure, are not red state evangelicals or die-hard right-wingers. In fact, for years, they were key players among a cohort that Mr. Trump loathes: Manhattans liberal elite.
Mr. Trump is an unconventional commander in chief who ran an unorthodox campaign. As such, he has cultivated unusual allies, including Kanye West and Roger Stone. Mr. White and Mr. Eure used to back strident, anti-Trump Democrats, but now dine with Fox News anchors and plan rounds of golf at Mar-a-Lago.

(7,805 posts)I don't give a damn about this couple...I don't give a damn about the depraved individuals who voted for Trump and continue to blindly support him...I have no sympathy for the "we regret voting for him" assholes...they installed an amoral narcissistic sociopath in our White House and gee whiz their 401ks are in the toilet...my bad...yes, you homophobic racist Neo nazis you very bad...I don't care why you did what you did and quite frankly the idiot media that chase these abhorrent individuals should maybe crawl into a hole and shut up for the duration...I don't care!

(444 posts)really republicans. Eure is from a long line of republicans in NC. White and Eure contributed to Romney's campaign. They can all justify their "change' but it was no change at all. They have almost no beliefs except themselves and their method to get ahead.
There really is no excuse for supporting a racist and that is what they do to get ahead.

(444 posts)nothing but personal gain is what motivates these two. There is no allegiance to beliefs only their own personal gain. Can you imagine being so selfish and self centered that you went from the Clinton party to the Trump party because they didn't want to be around a morgue like atmosphere. Talk about no soul.

(58,785 posts)liberal suck-ups when that's advantageous, conservative suck-ups when that is?
Democrats can change their party label to Republican and vice versa, sure.
But liberals cannot change their personalities and become social conservatives. Nor can trumpsters can stop disliking and fearing change and become excited about the wonderful possibilities of change and happily stimulated by diversity.
These weren't liberals, not the real thing.

(12,618 posts)And how is this news? Profile in privileged minority class that betrays its roots and despite being a minority, ultimately doesn't give a shit about anybody but themselves? Wow! Big whoop NYT. There were not only blacks who fought for the Confederacy, but there were even blacks who owned slaves too. This type of self-betraying elitism is nothing new. Report on something worthwhile next time and don't give these two pathetic hams any more attention than they deserve.
