protect their own products and their own businesses. I’m sure they were all very happy when Trump rescinded the rules on inspection of irrigation water. But this kind of thing if it happens often enough could kill the industry.

I mentioned this to one, that true free market will lead to the kind of imbalances in society that cause destabilization that could put a percentage of the population at risk, health wise. Many could die. They said that was fine with them and an acceptable outcome.

I wondered, if you're killing off the consumers of your products, how can it lead to a positive profit margins?

There is just no getting around it. I now realize that most free marketers were probably racist and were okay with genocide.

sourced from China proved deadly because of inadequate regulation of suppliers over there, mainly because of bribery of regulators. In the long run, it won't pay off for those trying to avoid regulation.

Went to my local Sprouts last night and they only had spinach and kale. Romaine had been gone for a but others like iceberg and red leaf/green leaf were still there...but last night they were all removed and only spinach and kale remained. I like spinach and kale, so no big deal.

You can also grow mini greens that are ready to eat in a week.

When I lived in France, decades ago, I saw that all the time. After a rain, they looked for snails also. Almost all our neighbors had their own backyard vegetable gardens. We should start doing that or indoor gardening. Think I may get some lettuce seeds and break out my plant lights!

And the "hamburger lettuce" in the plastic box that looks a lot like romaine. But perhaps it's not romaine. It looks slightly more delicate but sure looks close.

I got a head of the iceberg. Now I wonder.

There were 2 small, lousy, half rotten heads of iceberg and three heads of looseleaf, 2 of which were inedible. I got the third. There's a more local producer of baby lettuce blends that should be picking up the slack later on in the week. I'm really annoyed with myself because I've grown lettuce in a small greenhouse gizmo well into November before, but decided to take everything up to rearrange the garden next year and didn't start any.

There was one small lettuce head which looked like butter lettuce, but it was unmarked and no price.
I generally buy organic and it would have taken me an extra 10 minutes or so to investigate this suspect lettuce.
I wasn’t in the mood tonight for further inquiries.

Went to dinner last night at Chili’s in Elton, MD. No salads available, and no lettuce for tacos or fajitas.
I personally would rather be safe than sorry. I still ordered something that had no lettuce component, just in case.
