https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-nra-just-reported-losing-dollar55-million-in-income/bodyThe nations leading gun rights organization saw its income dip by $55 million last year, after a record-breaking 2016 in which the group and its political affiliates spend unprecedented sums to elect President Donald Trump.
The National Rifle Association of America reported $98 million in contributions in 2017, down from nearly $125 million in 2016, according to new tax records obtained by The Daily Beast. Nearly a fifth of its contributions last year came from a single anonymous donor, who chipped in nearly $19 million to the group.
More noteworthy than its drop in contributions, though, was its decline in membership dues. The NRA took in more than $128 million in dues last yeara significant sum, but down considerably from the $163 million it took in the year prior. That decline, more than the drop in direct contributions, appears to indicate a dwindling, if still formidable, base of public support. Asked for comment on the decline, an NRA spokesperson pointed to reporting showing that the organizations magazine subscriptions have shot up this year, interpreted as an indicator of an accompanying membership surge.
Nonetheless, 2017 did not see a financial windfall for the group. In all, the NRA reported just under $312 million in total income, down from nearly $367 million the year before.
Gee, look what happens after you get caught taking illegal Russian cash.

(35,648 posts)is the OP suggesting that the single donor is a Russian or a Saudi? If this were the case, it would be huge, just huge. For an outside entity wishing for the destruction of an adversary country, no one needs to file a single bullet . In America they can just let them kill each other. Now that mass shootings are pretty much up to one a day, this would be a remarkable success story.

We had just been laughing about their hard times and losing the free coffee at their HQ. We're both WWII buffs. The only reason we were there is that we knew a guy with an interesting collection was there running a booth.

(8,545 posts)While I was waiting to get a new battery in my watch, another customer told me that she and her husband just got back from Traveling all over Russia. She said the NRA pays for him to go on hunting trips all over the world.
She said that in every place they went in Russia, the people liked Putin.
When I mentioned they dont like that Putin is lowering their pensions, she agreed that this was true.
Then I said, Putins got to get the money to give to the NRA from somewhere.
The question in my mind is: what is this guy really doing for the NRA and Russia? No one pays for a person to go hunting all over the world without getting something in return.
I was surprised when an employee in this store corrected the woman when she asked if he was from Russia and he said he wasnt. He said he was from the Soviet Union.

And no. Ar-15's and AK-47's ARE not sporting arms. They are weapons designed specifically to shoot humans. Arms with more than six rounds or are semiautomatic are not sporting arms.

(50,552 posts)The NRA's biggest problem right now is the guys who make Nugent look like a gun grabber. They're the "base" of any gun advocacy group, and they think the NRA is way too liberal for their tastes. Gun Owners of America, National Association for Gun Rights and the Second Amendment Foundation are growing while the NRA is contracting.

(36,747 posts)Republicans are bad for gun industry sales.
The NRA used to be for sportsmen, hunters and gun safety.
Now it has become an industry owned shill for the sale of more guns and the enrichment of its leaders.
