President Trump claims in a new book that he is far greater than Ronald Reagan and says conservatives dont give him enough credit for his accomplishments, the Washington Examiner reports.
Said Trump: The amazing thing is that you have certain people who are conservative Republicans that if my name werent Trump, if it were John Smith, they would say Im the greatest president in history and I blow Ronald Reagan away.

(53,472 posts)He forgot to mention the historic defeat the repugs just endured despite scores of frantic rallies around the country where he implored deplorables to vote as if his name was on the ballot.
And another sad part is Reagan was no great shakes as a president, but he and trump do have one thing in common.
Both are/were traitors, Reagan conspired with Iran and trump conspired with the Russians to win an election.

(10,070 posts)Hoover was not the best of presidents, and little he did helped resolve the Depression*. But to give him credit where it's due, he was noted for his humanitarian work at the end of WWI and in the early 20s. After he left office he worked with President Truman - a Democrat - on government reform. And unlike certain people who declared bankruptcy 3? 4? times, Hoover literally started with nothing, worked his way through college, and made his own fortune as a mining engineer in not very glamorous parts of the world. And instead of putting his name on a ghost-written book, Hoover along with his wife are remembered for their translation from Latin of the first book on mining, still in print. Given the choice between well-meaning but not up to the job on the one hand and stupidly incompetent, petty, and corrupt on the other, I'd go with Hoover any day.
*a recent bio I read claims that FDR's policies didn't have much measurable effect until halfway through his second term.

(16,646 posts)My father, who lived through the depression, explained that when FDR came into office, he started alot of various "aid" efforts that the people felt immeditately. Yes, they did nothing for the markets, and unemployment wasn't affected. But people ate, and they were warmer, and they had rudimentary shelter. FDR's performance is often overstated, but Hoover flatly refused to do many of the aid efforts that FDR did.
Flip side of that is, Hoover has one of my favorite quotes to his credit.
"The only problem with capitalism, is that capitalists are so damn greedy". (or variations thereof)
It is a vague reference to the fact that the "rules" of capitalism dictate a certain "sharing" of the profits and capitalists rarely do that unless forced. It doesn't take too many people breaking the rules to make a system breakdown. Even just the perception that people are breaking the rules, can make the system fail as desperate people take the "well, everyone is doing it" approach to rule following. The fundamental problem with capitalism is that there isn't any real "moral" aspect to the rules. There is no such thing as "too much profit". There is no wage "too high". And worse, there is no moral connection to the people who may need an item, and a capitalists ability to force a particular level of compensation. And we see that play out everyday in the medical industry, not to mention in the unmet needs of the starving in a world awash in so much food that the world wastes 30% of it every day.

Just like they say he didn't want to be president, my gut here is that he is hoping to be made to resign so he can say "He Won"...somehow. Unfortunately for him, the temerity and slavish adherence of the Rs to hiding behind him leaves few to help usher him out.
There is no other possible explanation for the stupid, illegal, gibberish he bloviates in tweet and in person. I don't think the 25th or impeachment is likely...both require straight up votes. But behind the scenes, a la Nixon...that's what I'm getting on his, perhaps, subconscious behavior.

(20,683 posts)He tossed some paper towels once. Signed a tax bill that he didn't know the contents of. Yelled at our allies. Saluted a North Korean general. Reupped a NAFTA treaty he was against, and put a rapist on the supreme court, let Russia and Saudi Arabia murder people on foreign soil ... played a lot of golf.
Other than that, I can't think of anything he's actually done.

(11,882 posts)Often make false claims how great they are to re-enforce their lies and self promotion of themselves. trump trying to project his greatness, which is backfiring on him as his legacy will be one of the worst in this country's history, and the most corrupt. He should end up behind bars for treason against this country if justice apply's to everyone equally. The numbers of indicted people will set records before its done. He's a serial liar, a corrupt career criminal, and committed acts of treason against his own country, but wants to be regarded as the greatest president ever, lol, he's a fraud, and a crook.
